New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Garm yelped. "That blasted dog!" growled Giles. "Where's the blunderbuss. . .?" :)
I'm a big Bob Denver fan--loved him as Maynard G. Krebs in Dobie Gillis, too--so I appreciated the Denver anecdote. How'd your husband's company manage to get him for the party?
About to head out here, so see everyone after supper.
I enjoyed it. Visually it was great- especially the necromonger themes. The statues look like they're straight out of hard sci-fi. Big'ol said it visually reminded him of Dune.
The plot was formulaic but had the advantage of not being a beloved, and widely-read novel. The filmmakers could make the movie they wanted. Pacing had it's ups and downs. The parts that felt rushed had too much background info to process at once. You come away with too many questions that don't ever get answered. I recommend reading through the website to get the gist of the story universe before you see it. Other parts dragged on and didn't contribute much. ie. all of Crematoria.
The surviving characters of Pitch Black reprise and continue their roles. (Jack is all grown up. ) Judy Dench's character is really unique. Our wonderful Karl Urban makes an appearance as a necro captain dude. I wish they would have developed his character a bit more. Vin Diesel... well. He could read me the newspaper with that voice. *alas* He wasn't all serious- the guy has comedic insticts!
All in all, it was a fun movie. Somewhat above average for Hollywood sci-fi.
I don't have but a minute before I gotta get off line lest Steve catch me flirting with the milkman here...but I just had to say Thanks for posting that! I know I haven't been helping as much as I should lately, but I really appreciate you pinging me to these posts...they really make my whole day.
So, if I liked "Pitch Black", will I like Riddick? Not sure I'll get to see it, nobody here wants to but me.
Heh, I remember watching Pitch Black with friends... I said first thing, "Jack is a girl" and they didn't believe me at all. Hmm... but who else made it out, in Pitch Black? The iman-type?
I know everybody here has their hearts and prayers into this project, which is the important thing. Good news like this is too good to keep to oneself, and has to be shared, which makes it even better news.
I remember Jean Keri recently saying this wasn't a "real war" because there was no "shared sacrifice". That's lib-speak for more taxes to make the fat parts of the government even fatter. But we're supposed to feel good about the pain.
The funny thing is, what we're doing feels so good, and is so rewarding, how can it be called a sacrifice? Where are our long faces? It's almost like being Santa Claus all year long. Of course, according to the lie-berals, this doesn't count because they wouldn't be caught dead donating a dime for the troops. They get their sanctimony rush by making everbody else pay more to the government, to be spent on their pet programs.
I watched it religiously also.
Thanks winmag... yer a great American...
I think so. But it's a very different kind of plot. It's not very cerebral, not much of a thriller, more of an action adventure. Riddick doesn't evolve much as a character, you just get more of his back story.... and his biceps.
The ending is kinda fun. It is just begging for another chapter of the story. I left the theater chuckling and wondering just what Riddick, the felon, is gonna do now.
Bachelor movie day today, Riddick and HP:PoA. Enjoyed both.
Inventorying camping gear for a trip in August (Ontario's Huron shore). I need more napalm*, a citronella bucket candle and maybe another bottle of propane for the stove and lantern; definitely need to put fresh batteries in everything just before I go.
*That's what I call it; they call it "fire paste". You squeeze it out of a tube onto the wood you want to burn, and it burns both slowly and hotly enough that kindling is not required. But put enough of it in a casing, add an explosive/ignition charge, and it's napalm.
That's very kind of you, sir, but I pride myself on being just an average American. If I want an ego-boost, I might consider myself a 52nd-percentile American. The great Americans are out there with rifles, or computers, getting the job done. Or recently retired from that line of work.
Hi.... can we have a report back on the webcam? it's up, and this is what we think is the final setup...

Gots lots a yard work done today even though the ground is right spongy from all the rain. Got the mowin' and the weedeatin' done.
Jr. mowed the front. I go back and forth between wantin' to praise him 'cause he's doin' it without gripin' or wantin' to beat him senseless 'cause he's doin' a sorry-@$$ job.
Got daylilies that'll bloom any day now. And the best news is that the grapevine ain't dead. It's got new growth on it.
Had to remind myself not to be disppointed that some of the things I planted aren't blooming this year. Gotta remember that them magazine articles all say "we've been workin' on this for 20 years."
Since technically this is the first year I've done anything other than mow and get up the leaves, I figger I'm doing purdy good.
Reckon I should also remind myself how to spell "disappointed."
Looks good to me. Who's that sitting on the deck?
mini spam
