Light day in the Hole... we're sitting around watching movies. First up is "Stargate", then "The Mummy". I sense a theme.

Thanks--sounds like I have a lot of good reading ahead! :) BTW the recommendation to read Dream Master comes from a book I have called Science Fiction: The 100 Best Novels : An English-Language Selection, 1949-1984, by David Pringle. Pringle organizes his Top 100 list chronologically, and he picks Dream Master as one of the best books published in 1966, along with:

You should watch Land of the Lost, an old kids SF show with episodes written by such SF people as Theodore Sturgeon, Ben Bova, Larry Niven, and Walter Koenig--they had a very cool similar idea involving time-travel pyramids called "pylons".

You know...Im ashamed to admit it...I actually watched that show!!! Only thing was the whole concept was certainly appealing, but then they'd go all "Brady Bunch" and H&R Huff'n'Puff on the audience. The cheesiness was unbearable at times.

I was drawn to it like a train wreck though. I couldn't help myself.

Just got an email from one of g'ad's old buddies. I sent out a small shipment of knives and snips to them today, with more when I get a new batch in. It's amazing how fast those 40 are now down to 5.

Thanks to you and your friends. The Marines, soldiers and sailors assigned to our teams will be very motivated by your generosity and kind supportive sentiments. They have a tough job, and as you can well attest to from your own experience, words of support from patriots like you are real force multipliers. Any package from home boosts morale, but the one’s that are loaded with gifts that can be used in the field are real gems.

Sometimes that show was the coolest thing on TV and sometimes it was cheesy--often both in one episode! I could've done without the Brady Bunch elements and Cha-ka. But the dinosaurs and the Sleestaks and the Pylons were so cool, as was that one episode where Holly met Medusa. I watched that show avidly--I think that and Superfriends were my two favorites on Saturday morning. I also liked some of the other Krofft shows a lot--especially Sigmund the Sea Monster, Lost Saucer, Dr. Shrinker, ElectraWoman and DynaGirl, and Far Out Space Nuts (the latter which I've read influenced the Cantina scene in Star Wars). BTW here's a fun book on all those shows:

So how do you like them having night games at Wrigley now? I was kind of disappointed when they changed that, though I'm kind of getting used to it now.

I liked it better when they had all day games....and the way they stuck it to the League.

The story is that Mr. Wrigley was going to put lights in in the 40's (1942? '4? I forget which) but he donated the lights to the war effort.

Anyway....tonight's game is in Kalifornia. Don't get me started on this inter-league play crap.

Cool story on Wrigley. I'm not big on the interleague play, either. Actually I've been kind of sour on watching since the first players' strike. I liked the old days when pitchers still pitched 9 innings, before they changed the pitching mound so everyone could hit 60 home runs a season--uh-oh, now you've got me started, too :)

Interleague play...what's the point of playing "exhibition" games in the middle of a pennant race?

LOL! That does kind of disrupt the dramatic tension, doesn't it?--kind of like if Tolkien had interrupted the Battle of Pelennor Fields to insert a scene with Farmer Giles of Ham :)

Whoa...you are several up on me!!! I dont recognize any of those shows...although reviewing them, I am suddenly reminded of one attempt to do a lost in space kind of show that had Bob Denver in it...a kind of 'gilligan in space.'

A year before my hubby began working at his current company, the owners of the company three a 'Gilligan Returns" kind of party...and the special guest was Bob Denver!!

On top of that, the best friend of an ex looked almost exactly like Bob Denver...it was scary actually...just as nice though.
