Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...That none have seen but we alone.
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Ah-hah, but which are the first two? Did it start you with Lion, Witch and Wardrobe - which it should - or Magician's Nephew?
Heinlein sometimes had bits of poetry in his books. I think he referenced "Green Hills" in several other works. (Notable I recall at least one and maybe two references in "Farmer in the Sky")

If you find that please send me a copy, too--I know someone who'd get a kick out of that :)

I'm predestined not to. Ever heard of John Gerstner? I'm wondering if he's actually famous, or just famous among Presbyterians in Western PA.

I triple-dog dare you to post it.....you know where. ;^) You know ksen, you should learn from Jen. You were much nicer before you became one of the Stepford Calvinists. ;-)

I started with a
cartoon version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe which was inspired by the popularity of the Rankin-Bass
Hobbit. But now that you mention it I notice the 50th-anniversary set I got has
Magician's Nephew first, which isn't how the books used to be arranged--why did they change it?

IIRC, she was travelling yesterday to spend the day with schlohweiss today... it's her birthday!
Happy Birthday, schlohweiss!

It's publishing order versus internal series order. But, I like the publishing order first - that means LWW is 1, followed by Prince Caspian, Dawn Treader, Silver Chair, Horse and His Boy, Magician's Nephew, and Last Battle.

I did actually post on a thread Over There recently, but it was about Presbyterians. Internal issues, really.
And I think ksen's much nicer than a lot of my... sigh... fellow Calvinists. Has it cooled down a little, or do ALL the C/A threads get moved to the HotHead Zone?

It was on one of those 8mm films that you had to project onto the wallHeh, that's the way all our family home movies were... every so often they'd get pulled out and we'd have a great time looking at all those memories.

Heinlein's "Green Hills of Earth" and "Expanded Universe" short story collection. How are those? Both counted among his better story collections... two of the keystone collections of his "Future History" stories.
To: Corin Stormhands
No, and I've noticed. Good for you.
However, if you're not over there... but you saw me over there... you must be stalking me! Agh, it's a mad ax-murderer!
Oh wait, you weren't scary in real life. I'm ok.

I like "We Also Walk Dogs" from the Green Hills collection. It was my favorite Heinlein short for a long time (until I discovered the other short story collections, heh)
