New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
¡Muy bueno!
I meant to add to my last post, I remember Reagan getting shot. We were on the schoolbus when we heard about it. I was in shock--didn't know how to react. Then the TV replayed the coverage of the shooting ad infinitum.
I did see some shots of them awake after I saw the post on them sleeping. I figured maybe Hillary elbowed Bill awake or something :)
I think Bear said he was "close to his Mom" so to speak.
I was at home. My aunt used to care for us while my mom worked. I was playing and my brother came home early from school. I didn't "get" what had happened of course.
But I remember seeing the service at the National Cathedral (on our B&W TV). I asked my Mom "Is that Aunt Frances?" Aunt Frances had vey blonde hair. It was a bald man.
I don't
So which one of them is the Mouth of Sauron? :)
My grandmother (I can't believe she votes Republican now and then) goes teary about the JFK shooting all the time. She really idolized the Kennedys. It's funny, though, because she'll be talking about it like I - or my mom, who wasn't born yet - should remember it!
All the same, I guess it really is true that everyone who was there, remembers where they were. I know I'll remember every detail of 9/11 until I die...
You couldn't have been old enough to remember much, though, right?
He's the Mouth. She's the Witch-King of Angmar.
Well...I think I remembered where the cookie jar was. :)
I was nestled in my Mother's womb. Don't remember anything of that! I do however, remember where I was during the last moon landing (I was 8), Nixon announcing his resignation (I was 10), Reagan being shot (I was 17), and the Challenger explosion (I was 21).
"I think Bear said he was "close to his Mom" so to speak."
ROFL!
Thanks for sharing your memories of that. I think my Mom said she remembers waiting for the bus when she heard about it. My Dad also talks a lot about the Cuban Missile Crisis--he was in the Army then and was called down to Florida for that.
re: Clinton ..
During one of the tributes, Reagan was described as a man who didn't HAVE to be president to be complete, a man who wasn't "all about himself", and a man who truly adored his wife ....
I found myself wondering if Bill was recognizing the opposite of himself.
so I said aloud in the room " Sounds like Bill! " .. and for a moment, everyone laughed.
Opposite poles, i would say.
"I don't."
LOL! I don't, either, but in my case it's because I wasn't around then :)
Sigh...I'm listening to Rush, but I have the CSPAN link on showing the arrival at the airport. I was just remembering being at Bush41's Inauguration and seeing the Reagan's helicopter fly over the Capitol as they left.
So you're about my dad's age. A year younger. Huh.
Dad told me a story the other night about meeting Reagan... he was about 21, and was working for the CIA. There was groundbreaking on the future CIA headquarters (I think that's what he said) and Reagan came out and shook hands with everyone who was there. Dad was a massive liberal at the time but he respected Reagan.
On a related note, I had a weird little light-bulb moment the other night, watching "The Hunt for Red October", when they're pulling up to the security outside of Langley... I said "Oh! I think I remember that! We used to go through there to pick Dad up after work, when I was four."
"I know I'll remember every detail of 9/11 until I die..."
Me, too. One of my best friends woke up that morning from a nightmare that lots of people were dead and her child was missing. I'd had a similar nightmare that morning, too. She emailed me about hers about an hour before the first plane hit. Then when the plane hit it freaked her out and she emailed me about it. I logged into FR just in time to hear about the second plane. My first thought was, it's gotta be Osama.
That seems to be true of all the recent Republican presidents... Clinton, it's been reported, thought about becoming president even as far back as high school. I've seen the same said about John Kerry.
That kind of... fanaticism... frightens me.
"He's the Mouth. She's the Witch-King of Angmar."
ROFL! :) I wonder who's Morgoth, then?--the UN, maybe?
