New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Except on *this* side of the bridge.
Outside the city limits and news buildings, no one cares anymore (if they ever did).
That's sorta why we'd kinda like to be Kitsap, instead'a Pierce.
Nothing personal, ya'know... :-)
What's a Kitsap and a Pierce?
Pierce will never let go of those property tax dollars.
Night Bear. :-)
Counties. Currently, Gig Harbor is is Pierce county for reasons that nobody has yet to be able to explain.
For some reason, Pierce county (mostly meaning Tacoma and environs) extends across the Narrows bridge to include Gig Harbor. But just outside of GH the rest of the nearby peninsula is Kitsap county. Most of us in GH would prefer to join up with Kitsap and dump the baggage that comes with Tacoma/Pierce County (nothing personal, Scott... really... )
And Ramius forgets to add: In the last 20 years that side of the bridge has seen huge growth in population, becoming another major suburb of Tacoma -- thus raising property values, and making them a big source of income for the County (Pierce) with the highest property tax rates in the state (Tacoma has the highest of any city). Thus, the loss of the chance for them to escape to lower-tax Kitsap. Success can have its drawbacks.
I got the gist of territory when Scott mentioned property tax dollars. :-)
I see you are being held captive. For annual ransom as it were. ;-)
They are kidnapped! You have them and they can't get away!
It's not a matter of letting go. It's a matter of ripping away forcefully. :-)
I'm already beginning to wonder how they'll continue to collect tolls after the toll booths have sudden and unexpected structural problems. :-) I figure that if the toll starts out at $3, then it is perfectly fair to pay the "toll" by way of exchange in an equivalent amount of TetraNitroToluene. Fair is fair.
ROFLMBO!!!!
So, you told us you only have to pay the toll one way. Which is it? Into Tacoma or escaping?
Oh... I got yer property-tax right here... :-)
Maybe time for a Gig Harbor Tea Party. :-)
Well, technically speaking it ain't me (I'm the City and we have no claims on any GH money, they're outside our borders)...it's the County. They're yet another fine piece of work.
The toll booths will be Eastbound, that is, across the bridge toward Tacoma.
But the tolls only *start* at $3. They're already scheduled to go up a dollar a year for three years to be a $6 toll. One way.
But by then the Gig Harbor Militia will be fully stocked up and equipped with good boats and appropriate ordnance.
As Sun Tsu's curse goes: "may you live in interesting times".
Okay. Not you. Just those nameless libs *around* you. Your neighbors and county-mates are all personally conspiring in this kidnapping of Ramius. It's pretty obvious that he's fighting the chains isn't it? :-)
So, for instance, I'm guessing that you'd have to pay the toll to drive into the main part of your county to pay those property taxes, were you to want to pay them in person. Have I got that right? :-)
Am I prodding at the sores too hard? ;-)
There is a *lot* of fighting the chains of Pierce County happening over "here" in greater GH. When the revolt finally happens it will come as a shock to them, as such things always do.
Funny that. :-)
Well now that may be so...but you have to think: Ramius needs a good fight to keep himself in keen condition, otherwise he might lose that edge. Therefor, my money-grubbing, tie-dyed, patchouli-smelling, Clinton-loving neighbors are serving a certain purpose in keeping Ramius on his toes and honed to a keen edge.
