Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...That none have seen but we alone.
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Can you imagine what that must have sounded like there in the rotunda? I'm just speechless.
I snuck out of the office and went home to watch the transition to the caisson, the riderless horse, and the flyby. [snif]

Here's a link! They have really nice harmonies... but I mention them because they have a version of "Wayfaring Stranger" that one of the producers at KVET has remixed with sound clips from Pres. Reagan's speeches, as a tribute. Unfortunately the only way to hear it is to hear it played on KVET, but it's very moving!

I was also very relieved/thrilled to see those were AMERICAN motorcycles up front! I would have been disturbed at others. Woulda been wrong. Motorcycles may not have been President Reagan's ride of choice, but I think he would have seen the fitness of having American ones there.

Maggie has been described as frail of late, I think though, that she looked very good.

It's worth hearing, I think... the Kyle Family website has some samples of their music, if you have RealPlayer loaded.

You remember when we saw her speak at that speaker's forum? That was a really great series, Thatcher, Powell, Barbra Bush... (forget who else right now) Are those forums still going on?

I think I've prolly told this story before.
When I was um..."between jobs" in 1994 I did some volunteer work for Jack Kemp. Ended up getting to go to the Super Bowl in Atlanta to "work" for him. The same week the Mrs. worked with a photographer friend of ours at an event for Ronald Reagan and Maggie Thatcher.
We laugh about the fact that we had $12.00 in the bank and were hob-nobbing with all those rich folk.

There were actually two people there with us who scalped their Super Bowl tickets and gave us the cash to pay our rent.

Well, I've read it before. Wife got the book to listen to while she was doing some work upstairs. So I took it with me. It's a good refresher for the movie.

I know I've said it before, but I need to say it again:
The only thing that you need to know about the legacy of Ronald Reagan is, for me, captured in this: Mikhail Gorbachev is coming to his funeral.
Just dang...

Hi everyone!
Got the kids settled finally and am still wiping away tears from the State Funeral.
I do OK until they show Nancy. By the time she walked up to the casket on VP Cheney's arm, I was a goner.
Then I remember that President Reagan is in Heaven, watching the whole production with that easy smile and soft twinkle in his eyes. And then I smile.
