Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You know you are missed when we don't see you here. But, totally understandable with all the messes you've had getting on-line lately! Glad you're here now. :-)

Evenin' XGI... Condolences on the loss of your friend. Sorry if my post on that thread cheesed you off. Don't intend to make people mad, but I seem to have a talent for it.

Evennin' all!! [sip]

What's with all this talk about feet? My toes are a hopeless cause, and I've long since given up any hope of the bite scars healing in time. I'm wearin' sandals anyway.

I copied my post to it's own thread on the main page("Die in battle, die in bed,but don't die like this").

It got quite a debate going...a little bit of a flamefest as some seemed to think I had advocated jack-booted thugs pounding down doors to make sure Mommy isn't letting Baby play "fork the outlets".

Sigh...

No...but I do advocate taking the personal responsibility to use provided safety equipment when operating two-ton machines capable of (legally) travelling up to 75 MPH while in close proximity to others, perhaps less competent, doing the exact same thing. And I don't mind cops making others do that which I do voluntarily...

Even that could be misconstrued. Oh well, I'm tired, I'm PO'd, and I have to go to the Big Impersonal 24/7 Store to see what kind of condolence cards they have...for three families. Sorry if I offend...but OTOH, under the circumstances I don't give a steaming pile.

Soon as I saw you mention your feet I wondered if the bites were gone! I'm thinkin' your bugs lived so long because they enjoyed that Wild Turkey you doused 'em with. They thought they was livin' good. :-)

Roger that. I won't carry my argument over here, but I do understand the rage at the appalling senselessness of such a loss.

I have no idea why it lasted so long. Actually... it's just about all gone now except for some spotty scars. I guess it was my own dumb self that kept scratching them so they couldn't heal properly.

You don't think that when you smothered 'em with Turkey they might have decided it was worth living a long and comfortable life at your expense? :-)

So... fear of being ejected and crushed by a rolling car and having brains spurt out my ears won't make me wear a seatbelt, but fear of a ticket will?

Thinking people wear seatbelts and obey the law. Unthinking people are not controlled by such things.

I think ExGeeEye has suffered a terrible loss today. It is sad, tragic and regrettable for Corey's family. Maybe not the best day to be having the debate about whether seatbelt laws should exist or enforced.

I think the Hobbit Hole regulars probably know what I think about that issue, but I noticed from ExGeeEye's tagline that his friend Corey was born the same year as my oldest daughter. No way I want to argue about seatbelts on the day XGI hears of the young man's death.

Oh... and while I'm on topic... Yes, I believe that seatbelts are essential. I cannot *not* wear mine. It's just automatic.

But serendipity strikes sometimes: The maid of honor at Hair's wedding was in a serious rollover crash several years ago. She would not have survived if she had been wearing her seatbelt. Yes, she was ejected and the car rolled over her, and she was very badly hurt. But the car went off a steep high bank and landed upside down in the river.

I happen to drive a convertible. I figure if I roll it I'm pretty much a goner inside or outside of the car. But I wear my seatbelt anyway just out of habit.

Hi Bear. I think Ramius was talking about scars on his feet and that was about all we were gonna discuss in the Hobbit Hole. :-D

Got any scars on your feet Bear? LOL

You're right. Sorry. Shouldn't be carrying arguments across threads anyway. Poor form, that.

To all and sundry: Wear Your Damned Seat Belts!

I'll AMEN that! Folks don't realize how such a simple thing can save their lives. Mama used to complain about wearing her seat belt when I'd take her somewhere, but I'd tell her like I always told my kids. This car doesn't move until everyone is wearing a seat belt!

I knew a woman in NJ who had a son close in age to our oldest, Paul. She couldn't understand how I could get my kids to always wear their seatbelts; she said her son always cried, so she'd let him NOT wear his. I asked her if she'd rather have him sad for a short time or DEAD! After she got over the shock, I told her that if she were consistent about it, he'd get used to it and wouldn't give her any more trouble about it. If she let him continue to get away with not wearing it, he'd probably die in a small accident that shouldn't have killed anybody because he'd have no protection at all!

She saw the light after that, Thank God!

I'm so sorry about Corey.

Mine aren't hairy, but I do have a couple scars that aren't to obvious. Mine is more things looking funny cause of bone breaks! LOL

Isn't this a lovely topic? :-D
