I'm going to take a sample. I don't know if it grows from a rhizome. I've seen it where it is in picture (in front of the house) and possibly one on the side of the house, which I prolly mulched to death.
That stuff grows all over where I go hiking.
Tell him I love him!
You have it!!! I looked at wintergreens in one of my books last night but none of 'em matched the leaves in my book! And yours doesn't look anything like the wintergreen I have growing so I just couldn't believe it would be one of them!
Hallelujah pass the pancakes time!
I got a letter today from my graduate school. They've awarded me another fellowship. It comes to an extra four thousand dollars this year! I was not expecting this at all, and it's a wonderful thing.
Sadly, that's one of the kinder remarks.
no more?
Congratulations, Jen!!!--that's great news! How close are you to having all expenses covered, then?
BTW for today's earworm I have the Potter theme music :) I was lucky when I got to the library today to return the first two movies. They had CoS but someone had checked out PoA/ however I asked the librarian and they had a large-print copy of PoA in. I finished 1/3 of CoS so far--hoping to finish the rest ASAP so I can start PoA.
Hey howdy there evellybody!
Yeah, I made the mistake of wandering over to DU just to see if it was as bad as everybody said. Sadly... it was worse than I expected. I figured that there would at least be one or two posts here or there that showed a little class.
I would present the threads surrounding Wellstone's funeral as a direct counterpoint. I was impressed at the general classiness of most posters. Sure, we got our share of knuckle-draggers too, but they're sure in the minority. Not so at DU. Kinda sad, really.
Whoo Hoo Jen! You should go blow it in Vegas or something to celebrate. :-)
Evening Corin; yup, that's plant all right. I emailed your picture of it to a buddy of mine that works for the Biological Survey. He emailed me right back with that plant name, said it's fairly common mid atlantic northward and as far west as kentucky. Wasn't in my books, but googled the name he gave me and got a bunch of hits. Nice job on keying that one out, Corin.
Good evenink, Keptin. The rediation monitors hev all been recalibrated.</Tom Clancy>
Were you that bored? :)
Not happening... not this year, anyway, but it makes Entmoot 05 look more possible!
I'm watching "The Hunt For Red October" this week during my treadmill sessions. For some reason, I thought of you.
I should have everything covered. They're supposed to waive tuition, plus pay me a stipend - the extra cash just makes things that much easier. Means I'll have money for movies and such.
Enjoy the books... CoS is a nice fast read.
And anime cons [whispered so that the University can't hear :)] Way cool! Is part of that a work-study program or is that without work-study? It'd be really nice if you could devote yourself to school full-time.
Yeah, both of the first two books have been a fast read so far, probably partly because I already knew the basic plots. I don't know the plot of the third one so it'll probably go slower. BTW how many pages is the third one in regular typeset? In large print it's 592!
Let them sing. (/Captain Ramius) :-)
Yeah, I made the mistake of wandering over to DU
hmmmm.... I thought you had better taste than that. :-(
Just because you've been playing over at DU today, don't be askin' me to scratch to the left. :-)
No, I have to work half-time for the stipend, but it should be good. It'll be less work than I've been used to do, though more school-work. I've got a guaranteed TA (teaching assistant) post for three years, then I should be an RA (research assistant) until I'm done.
Let's see. PoA, in hardcover, is 435 pages - it's, I'd say, a third as long again as Chamber. And densely written, there's about 80 pages of sustained climactic action...
That's a pretty good deal! Do you know what classes you need to take this semester yet?
PoA sounds like it will be a fun read :)
The two deer from yesterday were back today, so I just tried seeing how far I could sneak up on them :) I got within about 15 yards before they seemed to take notice. They were watching me trying to decide whether I was a threat or not. Unfortunately at that very moment I had to cough, and as soon as I did that they took off, LOL! They only ran about 20 yards, though, and then continued grazing, so they weren't too scared, just startled I think. I'll try again tomorrow and see if I can get closer, maybe.
