Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...That none have seen but we alone.
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Who's this Tolkien guy anyway? Doesn't he know fantasy is stupid and escapist? Realism, that's where it is. And three volumes is so overdone. Let's analysis the homoerotic subtext, shall we?~ J. Random Critic
I agree--real literature has nothing to do with fantasy or heroic epics or supernatural beings. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going out to watch Troy.

I'm pretty sure I'll be done with the first two by next weekend. How long is the third?
Pirates of the Caribbean was pretty good. Depp's character actually influenced Mikhail in my novel a bit because I had just seen that when I was writing that--hence my two heroes.

Oh, you missed TONS. Like any explanation of why people were randomly turning into animals... and the real story about Harry's parents being betrayed... and tons. And she tells me not to give away Kenshin spoilers :)

Probably, which is why I read Heinlein's early works pretty exclusively. He got weird, man.It was from eating that alien lembas stuff :) Have you read Moon is a Harsh Mistress?

Sorry, you can't see the movie until you've read the first three books. "Prisoner of Azkaban" should be read before watching.
And come on, those weren't spoilers, you still shouldn't have much of a clue. I heard worse, before the book arrived in the US, and I still wound up being surprised. Then again, I was 16 and hadn't read nearly enough Agatha Christies yet.

I already kind of know the basic plot from a summary I read a while back, and they gave away a lot in the "making of" documentary I watched the other night. Still, I didn't know about the betrayal part--will have to brainwash myself now so I forget I heard that. I figure if I watch Bakshi a few times between now and then it will erase enough of my brain that I'll forget :)

Being familiar with the book ROTK really lessened my enjoyment of the movie ROTK. It's my least favorite of the three films... the only scene in the movie ROTK that I honestly felt came close to the book was the end at the Grey Havens (and Sam's return home). If I look at the movie as an adaptation of the book I really can't enjoy it; it I can detach myself enough to look at it as just a movie, then I can enjoy it for itself.

Yeah - sorry about that. We'll have to work on tightening up the script.
Had a good time at the high tide though, and Gidget had a blast barking at the waves crashing on the bulkhead.
We're headed home now and post pics from there... see you in a while! - or tomorrow!

Hello!
Just checking in before bed.
I can't wait to see the new bulkhead! I was pretty awestruck by the whole thing in the first place.

I've experienced a similar problem with just about every supehero comic adaptation I've seen--they always have to change something. . .
