That's what usually happens to me: the "big scenes" come to me in a flash of inspiration, but then I have to figure out how to fit them together, which is challenging. I guess that's good, though--a number of authors I've read recommend to write with the end of your story in mind so you know where it's going and can orient it accordingly.
The story of this story is convoluted. In some form, I've been writing it for almost five years. It started as a fanfiction...
What type of fanfic was it originally? Mine started as something to do for last Halloween! But I think it brought together a lot of things that have been in the back of my mind for years. A whole alternate history and future history have come to me as I've been writing--I haven't told you much about the future history part yet, but. . .you'll see :)
Ok, 3k is within range... I am going to hit 43k total tonight, or else!
Go for it! :) Okay, you're challenging me here--I'm gonna have to start cranking on mine shortly. . .Hey, speaking of the book-in-a-month thing, what month do we do that in?
NaNoWriMo is November.
Sigh... almost done with the more or less romantic proposal scene. That's the last big part of the setup. Another two chapters and we should be at the Big Bad Thing. Heh, and then the characters really get to go through hell, or something close... oh, I love tormenting characters I love...
Actually the fandom I was in was "Harry Potter" - that's why I'm so fond of the series. I have friends, interests, even my decision to go to grad school can indirectly be traced back to my getting into that fandom. I asked uncool sister to read what I'd written on my novel this weekend; she read all my fanfiction back in the day and she claims they're not too similar. So, no plagiarism, apparently.
