Hello....Hello....I know it has been a while, but the thread is locked and now I am lost. Things are still going strong on the Mosul front, however I have spent the last three days in Qatar on my R&R break. I have to leave bright and early in the morning to go back to Iraq. This place is beautiful, aside from the blistering heat. This really is a neat R&R program for soldiers. Camp As Saliyah has a Burger King (one of my favorites), Subway(yuck...veggies), Pizza inn(always good) and my personal favorite Chilis Bar and Grill....minus the bar. Chilis is located right next to an olympic size swimming pool and an over sized jacuzzi. They offer trips each day of your R&R break to the City center Mall, A deep sea fishing trip, and a desert safari. There is a night club on post where each soldier is allowed three drinks per day. There is also a DSN phone center where all R&R soldiers can call home unlimited for no charge. I spent a few hours a day talking to my darling wife. It was great for both of uus. All I wanted to do here is eat, eat, sit by the pool, and then eat some more. I left out the orange julius here, very refreshing in the 130 degree heat. The Gulf breeze feels like looking into a hair dryer. This is a great program for soldiers and everyone here seems to appreciate the break. I have to go back to Iraq in just a few short hours, but I am a little more relaxed, feeling refreshed, and ready to finish out my last four months. It has been a while since I posted due to the new hectic work schedule since the fighting erupted in April. Please pass this update along to everyone for me. Thanks a million. Steve
P.S. I replied and pointed him to this thread. No worries there. Oh, and notice I pinged him so he will see us!
God bless this soldier!
I know this is tough on him right now, but what an experience...I know it would be a defining experience in my life if I went through it.
Prayers for him and all the others.
Hey - that R&R break seems like a pretty cool place, and I am glad you guys have all that available to you!
So.... Smaagee how do the locals pronounce Qatar? The news media here can't seem to agree!
Thanks for the update WN.
Thanks for posting the note from Steve. It's good to hear he's doing well!
Y'all are the GREATEST...and I am so thankful you guys are willing to fight for my lazy butt!! We pray for you at our church all the time!!
Got your package today...afraid I have some bad news. It appears that is is too hot for hard candy now. It came as one big piece of hard candy. Everything else was fine though and much appreciated. Thanks for everything.
