What was the date of the "shot heard 'round the world" at the old north bridge? Seems to me that this would be the appropriate day for such a thing.
A few years ago I was visiting our Boston office and took a weekend to go off exploring. One of my stops was the Old North Bridge. I'm tellin' ya... you cannot stand there on that bridge and not feel it. You can see the British on one shore, and the militia on the other shore. You can hear them. You can still hear the shot.
That was a big moment for me. Almost as important as my visit to the USS Constitution, but that's another story.

Hmmm... we can't do it for my birthday huh?

Well, I guess if it can't be on my birthday then that will have to work.

What was the date of the "shot heard 'round the world" at the old north bridge? It was on April 19, 1775. We just had "Patriot's Week" here in MA, the spring holiday for the schools.

By the rude bridge that arch'd the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurl'd,
Here the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard 'round the world.
Spirit, that made those heroes dare to die,
And leave their children free,
Bid time and nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee.
---Ralph Waldo Emerson
I had heard that the bridge had fallen due to "time and nature". I'm glad to hear that either that was wrong or it has been rebuilt.
