Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Found the sign, blanked out the message that was there and substituted my own. Could be better, but heck, I'm just an amateur.

Buncha herbs mostly. 2 kinds of basil, rosemary, parsley, lemon grass, lemon verbena, 2 kinds of lavender, an aloe, some tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant.

I'm afraid the plants I planted from seed didn't take to well to one of those windy days.

Maybe I should clarify my use of the term "decadence". When I use the term "decadence" I'm using it with reference to the characteristics associated with the 19th-century Decadent movement in literature and art: "decadents, in literature, name loosely applied to those 19th-century, fin-de-siEcle European authors who sought inspiration, both in their lives and in their writings, in aestheticism and in all the more or less morbid and macabre expressions of human emotion. In reaction to the naturalism of the European realists, the decadents espoused that art should exist for its own sake, independent of moral and social concerns." So I'm referring to the moral tone of the work moreso than whether it handles children's vs. adult content--these can be related issues but are not precisely the same issue. IMO there are moral and immoral ways to handle adult content--for instance, LotR is adult (in contrast to The Hobbit but not immoral. Spider-Man included an adult segement among its audience already in the late 1960s, but the series did not take on a morally ambiguous tone until after McFarlane's influence (and yes, I'd agree McFarlane's an overrated hack, LOL!--the first issue of that Spider-Man series he wrote was close to the worst-written comic I've ever seen). So I'm not implying the notion that comics should be exclusively for kids, which is a notion I have never agreed with, either. What I am reacting to in contemporary comicdom is the notion that in order for something to qualify as "adult" it must revolt against traditional morality. This is distinct from the adult/kids issue per se; however, it does impact that issue in that the way comic-book companies have shifted their "moral target market" has robbed children of superheroes who once appealed to adults and children alike. It used to be both children and adults could enjoy Spider-Man or Batman without parents having to be unduly concerned about what their kids were reading. With Bob Kane's Batman, you knew he was the good guy and when he was killing bad guys it was in the interests of justice, which conveyed a morally clear message that, to quote the Shadow, "crime does not pay".

Congratulations! :) What are you going to do to celebrate today?--hmmm, let me guess. . .

BTW I was working on drawing Page 1 last night. I'm trying two different camera angles to see which works better; I'll probably send both to you later to get your feedback on that.
