Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

What do you call it when everything is rolled up in layers, but the seafood is NOT raw?

#1 son, Paul, is making Puerco Pibil, a spicy pork dish. He's putting all the ingredients together and it will marinade overnight. He'll bake it tomorrow. He learned this dish from the movie Once Upon a Time in Mexico

On the DVD. the director has a little 'cooking school' about how to make it. He says it's VEY spicy and VEY good!

The mithril coat is like a bullet-proof vest: Not much good if your assailant picks a different target. From the book:

"Garn!" said Shagrat. "She's got more than one poison. When she's hunting, she just gives 'em a dab in the neck and they go as limp as boned fish..."

I have another day off today- it's complicated, but I have a couple of days I have to take off due to all my recent travel. I tell ya, sleeping in is going to be a tough habit to break come tomorrow. :) Fortunately, I don't have any emails from people who want me to drop everything and help them out of a jam (they're usually a paygrade above me *sigh*). So I'm going shopping!!

Wow! Days off is a good thing! Hope you enjoy your shopping trip. :-)

I seem to have acclimated back to my age old habit of waking up early with lots of energy this morning. I like that. Seeing the dawn and all. But, this doesn't go with my work schedule so when I start back to work I have to rearrange my sleep schedule too. Somehow there is just something wrong with us adjusting sleep to work. Should be the other way around I think! :-)

LOL- I was just following an email thread wherein management is discussing amongst themselves various 'flex time' policies (come in when you want, leave when you want- as long as you work your hours) and TDY (travel) compensation. Current policy is that you don't get compensated in any way if you travel to an assignment on your own time. That's why I'm having to take my regular day off on a different day in the pay cycle. I'd rather collect those hours as comp time to use when I want.

But I'm just a peon- doing twice the work as people making twice as much. I'm feeling rather grumpy about that right now.

Big'ol sent me a funny:

INSTALLING "HUSBAND 1.0"

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance -- particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NFL 5.0, NBA 3.0. and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed, Desperate

=========================

Dear Desperate:

First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an Operating System. Please enter the command: "http: I Thought You Loved Me.htm" and try to download Tears 6.2 and don't forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.

If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

But remember, over use of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background, that will eventually seize control of all your system resources).

Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Hot Food 3.0 and Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck,
Tech Support

But I'm just a peon- doing twice the work as people making twice as much. I'm feeling rather grumpy about that right now.

There are jobs where this isn't true!!! I want one!!! :-)

I worked for years for a company with flex time. I guess it wasn't totally flexed but it was good for me. We could officially arrive at work anytime between 6 and 8, choose lunch between 15 minutes and an hour then leave when we'd worked 8 hours. It was even more flexible for employees with more years in, I had permission to come as early as 5, and my engineer and I both liked arriving that early. There were 4 of us in the department who rode bikes and we were allowed to take lunches as long as 2 hours which we occasionally did to get out for a nice ride. Didn't do that often, but in the nice months maybe a couple of times a month.

Of course, at that job I typically worked 10 hours a day or more so it wasn't unusual for me to be the first in the drafting department to arrive and the last to leave. But, the pay was good and the flexibility was good. It also afforded me long afternoons at the lake with Myranda in the summer because I *could* come in at 5, take 15 minutes for lunch and be out of there at 1:15. With all the other hours I put in, I made it a point to do that at least once a week when she was not in school.

Hmmmm..... I haven't even found a Boyfriend 5.0 program that I find acceptable. Not thinking ahead. :-)

Sounds divine. I wish more employers would realize that giving more flexibility to workers- and treating them like adults- results in increased productivity.

I must have gotten a bootleg/hacked version of husband 1.0 because he's very good at the romance-y stuff and does housework to boot!

That is exceptionally true! Of course, I didn't mention the unfair things at that company which finally caused me to give it up. But, that flextime policy was really good not only for us peons but for the company as a whole. We had good coverage for longer time during the day and there was always someone who *wanted* to work 2nd shift and 3rd shift, no need to assign someone who didn't want it.

Seems like I always get more work done in the obscenely early hours of the day. The rest of the day is pretty much downhill for me. Teaching nights has been a real trial. My brain is just on snooze at those hours!

Woo Hoo!!! We have a winner here!!! :-)

I used ta have one of those.... which is why it's difficult to find even a moderately acceptable Boyfriend program now that he's gone! :-) Not a bad thing... just good expectations on my part. :-D
