New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Bacon and biscuits with sliced tomatoes are my weakness though! Maybe gravy for the biscuits. LOL
You KNOW that's not good for you...
You bet! And none of this low carb business either...not for you or the jedis. You get buttermilk pancakes, with real syrup and homemade whipped cream made with sugar! Eggs with cheddar cheese...however way you want them. Steve makes a thing called a Denver Omelette that is just delicious!
Real coffee, not decaf.
If'n that's all right with you!
Hello....Hello....I know it has been a while, but the thread is locked and now I am lost. Things are still going strong on the Mosul front, however I have spent the last three days in Qatar on my R&R break. I have to leave bright and early in the morning to go back to Iraq. This place is beautiful, aside from the blistering heat. This really is a neat R&R program for soldiers. Camp As Saliyah has a Burger King (one of my favorites), Subway(yuck...veggies), Pizza inn(always good) and my personal favorite Chilis Bar and Grill....minus the bar. Chilis is located right next to an olympic size swimming pool and an over sized jacuzzi. They offer trips each day of your R&R break to the City center Mall, A deep sea fishing trip, and a desert safari. There is a night club on post where each soldier is allowed three drinks per day. There is also a DSN phone center where all R&R soldiers can call home unlimited for no charge. I spent a few hours a day talking to my darling wife. It was great for both of uus. All I wanted to do here is eat, eat, sit by the pool, and then eat some more. I left out the orange julius here, very refreshing in the 130 degree heat. The Gulf breeze feels like looking into a hair dryer. This is a great program for soldiers and everyone here seems to appreciate the break. I have to go back to Iraq in just a few short hours, but I am a little more relaxed, feeling refreshed, and ready to finish out my last four months. It has been a while since I posted due to the new hectic work schedule since the fighting erupted in April. Please pass this update along to everyone for me. Thanks a million. Steve
P.S. I replied and pointed him to this thread. No worries there. Oh, and notice I pinged him so he will see us!
Do you make good biscuits? I never learned how.
Also, can you paint my nails for Hair's wedding? I'm trying to grow them out just for the occassion.
Sounds delicious!
I'm hungry.
God bless this soldier!
I know this is tough on him right now, but what an experience...I know it would be a defining experience in my life if I went through it.
Prayers for him and all the others.
It's another one of those - "I spent 27 years making sure kids had breakfast, and now I don't wanna do it anymore!" Hehehe.... Not to worry, I snack from about 2PM on and make up for it. Yesterday I had 2 hamburgers, lots of chips, salsa verde and rojo, then went to dinner with my next door neighbor, Mexican again, had the obligatory chips and salsas - this place also serves a really sorry queso but I pour half my dish of both kinds of salsa in it to make it palatable, then I had enchiladas verde with frijoles and rice, and of course a sopapilla. I eat. Just not on the right schedule! LOL Oh, and I had cookie dough about midnight.
Hush skinny.
For biscuits I use Pioneer mix or Bisquick. They are good enough though I like old fashioned homemade buttermilk ones myself. I tell ya, the midwife who delivered Myranda made the most heavenly buttermilk biscuits. She and I became great friends and I even did some appretice midwifery with her till she moved. She would make homemade buttermilk biscuits with almost every meal! And though I helped her I never got them down right. She didn't have a recipe, just made 'em from memory.
Of course I will do your nails! Just bring the color nail polish you want!
Biscuits are easy! I'm sure there are those here who are much better at makin' 'em than I am...but they aren't hard to make.
This is Steve's dad's pancake recipe...we used to eat them every weekend, as a kind of tribute to his dad, ever since he died. (Remember when he died? It's been since we've known each other.)
Steve's vey emotional about them...but he doesn't eat them any more. So he'll be happy to make them again. Just so you know...these just aren't ordinary pancakes to Steve...
You are the one person here who saw me when I weighed 50 pounds more than I do now so you hush!!!! :-) If you remember it took me 2 years to lose all that weight!
Hey - that R&R break seems like a pretty cool place, and I am glad you guys have all that available to you!
So.... Smaagee how do the locals pronounce Qatar? The news media here can't seem to agree!
It's still not healthy to skip breakfast! *shakes finger*
I'm hungry the second I roll out of bed, so I guess I have more trouble than some understanding how people can do that...
First I gotta find a dress!
I'm thinkin' I could R & R in that place myself! Better than this part of Texas!
My grandmother used to dredge her biscuits in bacon grease prior to baking them!
What is all this talk of new dresses? Have NONE of you paid attention at all? :~D
I don't wake up hungry unless I sleep VERY VERY late! Takes me several hours to get hungry.
