Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

LOL!
Odd part: He never tried to kill anyone but himself with his antics.

Heh...my parents had an old Scrabble board they got in the seventies - one of the deluxe models with the turntable. Much sturdier than today's version of the same thing. I can remember getting it out so I could sit on it and spin. NOT something that my Dad exactly approved of...

But how are they going to learn about the little luxuries of life, like laser rangefinders and nightvsion scopes?

I meant 'lectronics in the entertainment/communications sense... weapons systems are operational... and essential...

I've read that there are people who are psychologically accident-prone, but never personally knew someone like that--sounds like he fits!

I have the deluxe Scrabble with the turntable, but mine's from the 1990s--got it for Christmas one year :) My parents have this really old Scrabble board from the 1940s, I believe. Something else I'd really like to see are old Monopoly boards--I guess they originally looked different before they added the "Rich Uncle" character.

We had one of the old ones at one point - with the wooden houses and all. Didn't last, unfortunately. Don't know exactly how old it was.

Looks great today though.... I could golf on it.

We just got back from walkin' and looking at it... been raining all day and we can just hear the grass growin. We took the horses off of it till it can grow an inch.

What's up with the Guinea hen and 19 eggs.... she didn't lay all of them did she? Is this a community clutch? Has anyone explained to her that they ain't gonna hatch?

Cool--I didn't know they made ones with wooden houses.

Here's a site with an article on dating old Monopoly boards, along with other interesting info on the history of the game:

Who Invented Monopoly?

Trying to remember what other games we used to have. Let's see: Chutes and Ladders; Candy Land; Don't Spill the Beans; Don't Break the Ice; Ants in the Pants; Cootie; Battleship; Bonkers; Connect Four; Toss Across; Hungry Hungry Hippos; Uno; Yahtzee; the Mad Magazine game; a bunch of Disney-themed board games. . .BTW I had a Hobbit board game once :)

This looks like a fun site:

I'm trying to find a picture of the Hobbit board game I used to have. Haven't found it but I found a site which lists a bunch of other old Hobbit and LotR board games I never even heard of:

Lord of the Rings & Hobbit Board Games

There's even a few Bakshi games :)
