The Hobbit Hole IX - A sudden tree or standing stone

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

COOL!
It's still recognition.

2J said I had to make an Entmoot banner, so I complied.

It was an awesome banner, Sam!!

I'm so glad Jeanne had a good time. It was great meeting her, after hearing you talk about her so much in the Hobbit Hole.

What happens when they go up to Massachusetts and get married, do you think?

Oh, please NO! We have enough home growns here already! I didn't listen to the radio or watch TV all day Monday because I knew it would be saturated with it!

COOL!

It's recognition and it looks good on a resume to go with a portfolio :)

BTW I was just looking up some links on comic art--here's an interesting one:

International Museum of Cartoon Art

Guess who's included in their museum's list of most famous artists BTW:

Ralph Bakshi

ROFL!

This is the Soviet of Washington. Where the Seattle city council votes to openly support hate and terrorist groups, and the Olympia city council votes to refuse a visit by the USS Olympia, a submarine that bears its name.

Certainly USS Olympia had a cruise missile it could spare for a flyby/demo at city hall? It's the least the crew could do to return the favor.

I saw that.
*shudder*
That's... almost like induction the Washington Federals into the Footbal hall of fame.

Been having ISP troubles for the last five days. Earthlink tech support, now in Bombay, was worse than useless. My best connect time, with a working DNS and TCP, has been 30 minutes at 28kbs.

Before it flakes out again (all my fault, according the the nice young lady in Bombay), I thought I'd post a couple of emails I got recently. First is from Jerry in Djibouti (sounds like a call on Rush Limbaugh). WN, you might want to email him with the names of those brands that his boss has become so fond of.

-----------------

GREETINGS FROM DJIBOUTI AFRICA. ALL IS WELL HERE AT CAMP LEMONIER AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MY FIRST R&R STARTING NEXT SUNDAY. I WANT TO THANK YOU AND YOUR GROUP FOR THE BOXES OF JOY THAT YOU SENT TO US AND WANT TO ADVISE YOU AS TO THE RECEPTION AND DISPERSAL OF THEM.

I SHARED OVER THE COUNTER THE SNACK CAKES AND CANDIES IN THE PACKAGES WITH WHOMEVER WALKED UP AND SAW THEM. ALTHOUGH WE HAVE A PX HERE THE SELECTION IS RATHER LIMITED AND THE TREATS YOU SENT WERE LOOKED AT LIKE MANNA FROM HEAVEN. THE CHIPS I GAVE TO SELECTED UNITS SUCH AS THE RAPID REACTION FORCE THAT SITS IN A TENT FOR 12 HOURS A DAY WAITING FOR AN INCIDENT TO HAPPEN THAT WOULD REQUIRE THEIR TALENTS. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN NEEDED SO FAR THANK THE LORD BUT THE SNACKS BROKE THEIR BOREDOM AND WERE APPRECIATED GREATLY. THE CHEESE BALLS WENT TO A BIBLE STUDY GROUP THAT MEETS WEEKLY IN THE CHAPEL AND TO THEIR SURPRISE THE HOBBIT HOLE GAVE THEM SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR ABOVE THE NORM.

LASTLY I INCLUDED THE BAG OF SNACK MIX ALONG WITH THE WEEKLY MOVIE FOR KBR EMPLOYEES IN OUR DINING FACILITY WHERE IT WAS ENJOYED AND TALKED ABOUT FOR DAYS. OUR CAMP MANAGER ASKED ME TO FIND OUT THE SPELLING OF THE SNACK MIX SO HE CAN ORDER IT FOR HIS FUTURE USE AND SO I ASK IF YOU, OR ONE OF YOU THERE COULD GIVE ME THE CORRECT SPELLING OF THE (GARADENTOS SNACK MIX ?) THAT YOU SENT. I WOULD APPRECIATE THIS SO I CAN COMPLETE THIS TASK HE GAVE ME. HE MUST HAVE BEEN IMPRESSED BECAUSE HE LOOKED ME UP AND ASKED DIRECTLY INSTEAD OF HAVING SOMEONE ELSE DO IT.

THE KNIVES AND SCISSORS HAVE BEEN DISPERSED THROUGHOUT THE CAMP POPULATION BY BEING OFFERED AS PRIZES FOR VARIOUS TOURNAMENTS AND CONTESTS AND WERE THEMSELVES UNIQUE AND HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER.

I WOULD LIKE TO OFFER A SUGGESTION FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. WE ARE TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER A LIBRARY FOR THE GUYS HERE AND WOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR ANY BOOKS YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SEND. THERE IS NO NEED FOR NEW BOOKS AND PAPERBACKS WEIGH LESS SO IF SOME WERE INCLUDED IN YOUR PACKAGES THE RECEPTION WOULD BE GOOD. THERE ARE MEN AND WOMEN SO THE TOPICS COULD BE AS VARIED AS YOU COULD IMAGINE. THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL DO GOOD FOLKS DO AND I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR COMMUNICATIONS AND FRIENDSHIPS.

BEST REGARDS, JERRY

Oh no!

You know, I mention the Washington Federals anywhere else, and no-one knows who they are.

Oh, and while I'm "on a roll" (kicked off three times since my last post), I thought I'd publish this nice letter that came from Destructor, along with a vey generous contribution for the troops that I split with WN. I think this is from Destructor, despite the use of the word "humble" in the letter.

----------------

Please accept this humble offering for that work you're doing on behalf of the trops. Sorry that I was a little bit later than I'd planned getting it mailed.

Listening to the mainstream news outlets it's easy to feel alone in the love of country. When I log on to Free Republic I'm reminded that I am not alone in my love of country and support for the troops. The good people of the Hobbit Hole thread are right there showing their support with their actions!

I appreciate what you've done for my friend, and relative (by marriage), Specialist Michael. More good news about Mike -- He's very close to getting his E-5! He'll make a great NCO.

I've enclosed a moeny order donation to help cover the cost of the knife and EMT snips that you sent to Mike. Please use any extra funds for this worthy cause! I'd just like to add that I'm honored to be part of it. Hobbits Rock!!!

Sincerely, Destructor
