Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

No wonder Lewis and Clark ended up needing Sacajawea.

Oh, yeah... like SHE had a map... riiight... :-)

I'm thinkin' it was more like "hey... Lewis... this here cute indian babe wants to tag along with us... waddya think?" then Lewis says: "Whaddya think I am... stupid?"

Or something like that.

When I was in the seventh grade, I flew alone to North Carolina to visit a preschool buddy of mine. My parents and baby brother flew in a week later (dad rented a Bonanza) to pick me up and we flew to Fredericksburg to visit dad's first cousins. One lived in Williamsburg, and the other two in Fredericksburg. We did the Colonial thing. It was incredible! While we were there, we borrowed one of the cousins' cars and drove to DC. We were gonna spend the day at the Smithsonian. Umm, well, we spent the day at the Air and Space Museum... Had to go back the next day to see the memorials, the White House, and Congress. I never did get to see the Museum of Natural History. That one is a must for the next time I get over that way.

Not yet. We did go for some enchiladas. With chili atop, and TWO EGGSES over easy. Oh yes!

Msdrby has been having steady contractions about every 10 minutes for a couple of days. She's hoping the spicy food helps. The chef made a custom salsa for her, with a lot of serrano peppers in it. Tasted vey yummy.

Need a guide through the woods in Texas? :-)

Okay, seriesly, what was this idea you had last night that you left us wondering about? Apparantly it didn't work... you didn't come back. But! What *were* you talking about? ~curiosity here~

I would agree that all who serve are worthy of honor. It's just that I see the Navy Cross as a special case. They don't give those away easily or trivially. In many cases, it's like a CMOH that you didn't have to die to get.

I got trained early to look out for CMOH and Navy Crosses on the ribbon boards of people I met in uniform. Everybody (from Admirals and Generals on down) is required to salute someone wearing a CMOH, but I would salute a Navy Cross just the same. IMHO.

I agree. I commented that everyone was worthy of the respect and honor because I didn't want my flip comment about Pfc Perez being from Texas to sound disrespectful to others not from Texas. I am very proud that this one is one of ours. I know he represents all Americans. But, you already know about the pride of Texicans. :-)

dang. Perhaps I put it wrong. Trust me... If I wore my gun to the office, it would make headlines... the freakouts would be loud and unavoidable.

No, I don't wanna see you in those kind of headlines. Headlines for a breakthrough in American gun rights would be good. But, not that way.

We went out tonight (I needed something extra spicy) for dinner at a place called La Finca's. Before I even looked at the menu, I asked our waiter what was the spiciest dish they serve. He replied that none of their dishes were *too* spicy, but that the chef would make it spicy for me, just name it. Woohoo! I ordered chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce and GUACAMOLE sauce. Had the chef make the guac sauce as spicy as he could.

Hehehe... The waiter confided to us that the chef added Serrano peppers to it just for me :-) I ate the whole thing. I am going to have to remember this waiter the next time we go there. That was some *good* gaucamole sauce!
