Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

but I've recently seen some pictures of brown recluse spider bites which can get pretty nasty One of the Girl Scout leaders got bitten by a brown recluse spider on the Encampment we went on weekend before last. She's got a NASTY looking area on her forehead where it bit her. It had been in her sleeping bag. I made sure to roll my bag up tight before I left the tent in the morning so no critters had a chance to move in while I was gone!

I washed my sheets and turned over the mattress--no sign of Shelob :) Hope it doesn't come back when I'm sleeping, though. . .I'm having visions of that scene in Dr. No where the tarantula crawls up Sean Connery! :)

OT; yup, that's about right. St. Louis would be a much better destination for the flying-in crowd.
There is good fishing round those parts, Montauk isn't too far as I recall, and Bennet Springs isn't either.
I reckon I could contribute a smoke-pole or two and some osage bows and cedar arrows a to the armoury. I got some extra fishing tackle as well.
Jen; MO is only a fairly good long day drive from Colorful Colorado. (you're mostly going across Kansas and it's down hill all the way) :-)

EEEeevenin' all! [sip]
A good friend of mine was a Navy corpsman, spent a lot of time training in the jungles of panama with the Marines. He told stories of the "banana spiders" there. Big yellow jobs, the size of salad plates. They were harmless really, but they liked to crawl into warm, tight places... like sleeping bags. the guys would wake up in the morning with six of 'em in the bag with 'em.
Just hearing the story gave me a case of the willies that lasted a week or so. [shudder]

Glad there's no banana spiders here! Yeah, the creepy part is that they like to crawl into sleeping bags and such. I knew there were some in the basement but didn't think there were any up here in the bedroom. Guess I know better now. . .
