Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I only clicked once. Really.

It's too soon for spam, after all.

When we were in DC a couple in our church small group was help up at gunpoint. Their response was to get involved with the Sarah Brady types. Wanted us to sign along. Of course I wouldn't.

Couldn't get them to see that DC has some of the strictest handgun laws in the country and probably more hand gun crimes per capita than just about any other city.

The suburbs where I live now are very safe. A huge percentage of people have guns - either handguns or hunting weapons. There's an accidental shooting every few months (though lots of those are from the city....) and a hunter gets mistaken for a deer every year or so. But our local gas station has never been robbed. I delivered pizzas one summer without worrying about being mugged.

I think the two are related.

That would be exceedingly cool!

Just promise not to laugh at my ignorance about guns in general.

Shotgun would be better than a rifle for home defense... especially in an apartment. You need the opposite of long range ;~D

Ugh. I wake up to gun control? At least Corin is a heroic dwarf!

My little Ruger .357 had a nice workout yesterday. :-)

Good mornin' - I think - no coffee yet.

I would never laugh! It'll be fun!

Ramius.... need to consider a shoot-moot here at the gravel pit on Monday after the wedding. Bring guns... I'll bring the targets...

Lots of new target stands going up around town...

12 gauge. I like my pump action. Sister-in-law and I were alone in their apartment with my baby nephew one night when my brother was goin' to A&M. Kinda iffy neighborhood they lived in. Heard somebody comin' up the stairs at about 2AM. We were up talkin' on the couch. Whoever it was tried the doorknob which was locked. We hollered "Who is it." No answer. kept messin' with the doorknob. I was holdin' the baby and she grabbed the shotgun. Sound of the pump action was all it took to send whoever it was runnin' down the stairs.

Yep, nice pump action field gun. I have a 20 gauge. And I can go out and shoot clay pigeons a full box of shells longer than the 12 gauge shooters.

What an absolutely inspiring target! Can I splash some ketchup on them first? *grin*

You know what I really want? A phaser. You set it on stun most of the time, it has no recoil, and it can be used to start fires if necessary.

Oh, yes, a rifle wouldn't work too well for protection, but they are fun to shoot.

Shooting full bottles of ketchup would be almost as fun even ~more~ fun than shooting cans of tomato soup.
