Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

:Working at home is pretty darned cool, let me tell ya!Well, at least knowing I have to do video project work during my "time off" is not so bad since I can do it here at home.
Ya'll still mowin' huh? I took advantage of the lovely afternoon when I got back from the store and sat out reading for a while. Love that!

This prison crap is depressing. It's more than depressing, it's just part of a joint RAT/terrorist operation to get rid of Bush and save Saddam's regime. The RATs worry about an "October surprise", but every week they try to spring their latest "October surprise" on Bush. If Bush uses the word "sorry", "apologize", or "responsible" (three words totally alien to klinton), there would be screams for a house judiciary committee investigation into impeachment the next day.
This is based on their faulty thought processes that their 200-20 hindsight was right all along, and is now indisputable fact accepted by everyone. There can be no more debate on that, they feel (note the use of "feel"), just on how severe the punishment should be. The world began this week with the pictures of alleged abuse (they're more considerate of the sensibilities of American criminals). Or the week before, with the hyping of some clown's book, or the week before that, with the contradictory (and therefore perjurious) testimony of some beltway bozo with a deflated ego and an axe to grind. Khobar Towers, the embassies, the Cole, WTC I and II, Somalia, the big holes in the Pentagon and Pennsylvania not only never happened, they're not even part of the RAT universe.
The shredders of the UCMJ were already processing the accused GIs before the photos were released. Justice can't work any faster, unless you just shoot the accused on the spot.
One final rant, not aimed here, but at the "elite", is, read the damn fine print on the back of that passport you're so proud of. There are a number of ways you can flush your American citizenship down the toilet, especially by fighting in an enemy military. Then read those damn Geneva Conventions you're spouting. Read about the four conditions that must be met to qualify as "prisoner of war". Read about "illegal combatants", and what rights they have. Hint: nothing more than a bullet in the back of the head. Anything better than that is purely magnaminity on our part.

One of my favorite little lines in the movies...when Boromir gets the door shut and says "[On top of everything else,] they have a cave-troll [and now we're really screwed]!"Not just what he said, but the way he said it. Like some extra aggravation he really doesn't need at that moment. I think Tolkien would have approved.

Howdy everyone! Emboldened by yesterday's success at mowing the little bit of back pasture with the push mower.... today I mowed the main pasture, ALL 3.5 acres of it! (ecurbh helped ;~D) I figure I walked several miles back and forth, you think? ;~D
It's the tall weeds the horses don't eat that bug me. It's a little a* retentive, I know, I have a thing for nice even lawns...

She wouldn't look as content laying among weeds would she?

I had heard that the bridge had fallen due to "time and nature". I'm glad to hear that either that was wrong or it has been rebuilt. From what I could see it appeared to be mostly original timbers, though there are clearly places where maintenance has been done over the years.
For me the visit there was really spooky, in a good way. I was alone for the most part, with few if any other tourists around. It was eerily quiet... and I just stood there soaking in the concept that "it all started *right* *here*."
It was similar in some ways to visits I had to the battlefields around Yorktown, VA. Sometimes history just shouts at you from those places, and in your minds' eye you can "see" it all happening all around you. What a sight it must have been...
Howdy all! I'm still catching up... [sip]

Love that horse picture, LOL! Reminds me of yesterday when I was at the zoo and a pair of lions were lying there plopped down like that on the grass, looking more relaxed than if it was a waterbed, LOL! :)

Remember why it is that we know about this stuff: not because an escaped prisoner smuggled photos and stories out of the prison, but because one of the soldiers assigned there reported it. Remember, too, why justice will be done: because we will do it ourselves, rather than have an outside organization or nation come in and do it "to" us. Remind those that need reminding. Blazingly well put, sir.

I like Jack a lot ... I like competent folk. I'm finishing up
The Maurititus Command, and find Commodore Jack just as fascinating as, though rather different from, the Captain Jack of the earlier books.
And I started liking Stephen again, once he was through his "dirty" period in H. M. S. Surprise. (I can't abide dirty people!) I blame that on both Diana and the French. The Stephen of The Maurititus Command was fearfully steady and useful
