Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Hey there... just wanted to let you know, no adult beverages were consumed at tonight's Austin Birthday Moot. None of that silliness was artificially induced!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear; Ramius; Wneighbor
Oh, Master Sea-Man, you did sound a bit surprised!
Say, Ramius ... does that watering hole of yours serve real ginger ale? Or do they make it out of Coke and Seven-Up?

Just got another email from Jerry:
--------------
THANKS TO EVERYONE AT THE HOBBIT HOLE. I RECEIVED A THIRD PACKAGE WITH PLENTY OF GOODIES IN IT. FROM US ALL, THANKS. I WAS STRUCK WITH THE THOUGHT THAT IF I WAS STILL PRACTICING MY HABITS AS I DID WHEN I FIRST STARTED READING THE HOBBIT, THESE MUNCHIES WOULD HAVE HIT THE SPOT. YES, I'M AN OLD HIPPIE. MY CHILDREN ALL THINK I'M ANCIENT AND OLD FASHIONED BUT STILL A LITTLE BIT HIP.
WE AS A BASE ARE DOING WELL HERE IN DJIBOUTI AND WE HAVE BEEN PRACTICING BUNKER DRILLS WITH AND WITHOUT MASKS. OUR MISSION IS DIFFERENT HERE THAN IN IRAQ, AND WHERE THEY MIGHT NEED THESE SKILLS, WE MORE THAN LIKELY WILL NOT. IT IS BETTER HOWEVER TO BE PREPARED THAN SORRY. MORAL IS GOOD EVEN IN THE LIGHT OF THE PRISONER ABUSE SEEN ON TV. IT IS UNIVERSALLY SCORNED UPON BY ALL I HAVE SPOKEN TOO ABOUT THE SUBJECT. THAT IS NOT THE AMERICAN WAY AND FOR WHAT WE STAND. I AM SO IMPRESSED BY THE TROOPS I PASS EVERYDAY. MY EXPERIENCE WAS IN VIETNAM AND THIS IS A DIFFERENT ARMY. THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER DON'T HAVE TO BE REMINDED OF WHAT THE DRAFT DID TO OUR NATION. WE SHOULD ALL BE PROUD AND SUPPORTIVE TO OUR VOLUNTEER MILITARY AS IT IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD. THERE IS NOT THE RACIAL PROBLEM NOW THAT WAS SO PRONOUNCED THEN. JUST ONE TEAM. THANKS AGAIN
GOTTA GO. JERRY

Thanks for sharing that email. It's important to hear stuff like that, especially since the media and the lie'brals have taken up the cause of the terrorists.

Morning. I'm so tired. It's a gorgeous day and I'm spending it in a cube.
See you tonight.

Sounds good. I'll probably use a combination of your recipe and the Frank's recipe next time I make 'em. Which may be soon...I'd forgotten how good those things are!

Good morning! Campus beautification day today, and it's gorgeous out there so far! Forgot sunscreen, though. Not good, considering I can just about burn at night...I just LOVE my Norski genes...
Thanks for sharing that letter, 300winmag!

Hehehe....one guy was starting to get freaked out. Fortunately there was a backup pot of Mr. Coffee brewing in the conference room. Phew!

Tried a variation of the flaxseed cereal for breakfast that was really, really good. I did like you said and used two tablespoons each of water and flax meal, and then added a few heaping tablespoons of yogurt and some frozen unsweetened blueberries and microwaved it again for 40 seconds. Used about half a packet of Splenda, too. It was soooo good...I imagine it would be even better with fresh blueberries, though these particular frozen ones are really good. They say "Wild Blueberries" on the package, though I don't know how they could be, really. Guess they started with wild varieties? In any case, they're small and very tasty.

I had tea with fresh mint yesterday for the first time this year. The mint has grown FAST! Tasted very good, too. I'll have to make some iced mint tea to keep in the fridge.

That mint iced tea is good! Think I'll try adding some lemon balm and/or verbena to it.

I still need to get some lemon SOMETHING to grow. I haven't seen seeds for anything along those lines, though. Might have to visit a greenhouse, I guess?
I have thyme now, though! One of the guys in the band got me some wild thyme. Still waiting to see if it's gonna take.
Of course, he just HAD to announce on stage that he'd given me a wild thyme...
