Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I'm a fan of Jack ... though he's made me angry here with the slutty Miss Smith that attached herself to him in Halifax.
Maturin? The Maturin from the movie is a pretty cool guy ... the Maturin in the books is not someone I would be terribly fond of ... too dirty! <laughing!>
Pullings is a nice guy, and so is Babbington.
Your news that there is A/M fiction out there disturbs me. I'd rather see a good Mary Sue than a slash of those two!
To: Rose in RoseBear
yippee (and FINALLY)...Maturin seems to be so popular because he is "complex" but I am like you : too unkempt and too secretive for my tastes. Per Miss Smith : DON'T I KNOW IT!! OOOo...I thought Diana was a sad case until she showed up...and was a bit annoyed with Maturin for not encouraging Diana to go warn Jack or to even step in himself...and then he goes all moral and fusses at Jack for 'not knowing chastity.'
Spoilers...highlight this space....
I wish I could be in that book so I could trip Miss Smith up or send her off on a goose-chase to get her out of the way. Funny how I am willing to blame the woman...but only because I would want a go at him myself...arent I sick!? I'd squash her dancing shoes REAL quick in order to save Jack the horrors of her sluttiness.

Your news that there is A/M fiction out there disturbs me. I'd rather see a good Mary Sue than a slash of those two! Disturbs me too...greatly! Not only that, but that so many of these slash stories are women. At first I thought it was just young women who had happy relationship with a boyfriend/husband/significant other, but then come to find out there are quite a few women who are older than me who are quite willing to fantasize about two men in an 'intimate' relationship. am I missing something? Do you think its because they are so unwilling to accept men as who they are and want so badly for men to be just like women that they consider two men acting like women towards each other a sign of love?????
I am really disturbed by it. Would much rathe have a Mary Sue myself!

<shudder>Complex is fine ... but you can be clean, too!
<chuckling>But what about Sophie, she who does not cater to the Captain's "animal senses"?
To: Alkhin
Many, many years ago, I witnessed the birth of the first "slash" fiction, in Trekdom. K/S was all the rage in the late Seventies. I knew several of the K/S authors back then. They are
exclusively female, most in their late twenties or older, celibate (or nearly so), in jobs that do not fully exercise their intelligence. The quality of writing in the "slash" stories is usually quite high; but almost none of the authors (with the notable exception of Gaylr Ferrer) has ever moved on to commercial writing, because they don't have the self-confidence/self-esteem necessary.
I suspect that all the "slash" fiction and authors out there follow the same paths. But, really, A/M? I mean, it was a hanging offense! Soooo illogical ...

Hi, Rose! :) How are you this evening? I'm sorta watching Capricorn One here. It's even worse than I remember, LOL!

300WM: that is a great idea, can't say as I have seen any of them, but will be looking. Thanks for posting.I was reading where the Marines pay $1200 per trailer for the graphics. The companies agree to run with them for two years. Considering some of these companies can get $5000 per month for that advertising space, that's a very generous gesture on their part.

Got Spider-Man on here now, on one of the Cinemax channels. By the way, we saw an extended trailer for Spider-Man 2 yesterday before the showing of Troy, and it was great! Spoiler! >> Looks like Harry Osborn hires Doc Ock to fight Spidey and expose his identity! <<
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I keep meaning to watch Spider-Man again before the new one comes out! I saw a second version of the trailer when I went to see The Punisher--it looked great! BTW how did you like Punisher?

We haven't seen Punisher yet... he's never been one of my favorite characters, and the reviews were iffy, so I figured we'd save some money and see it on cable...
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I liked it okay, but I'm not really picky--whenever I'm tempted to complain about a superhero movie I think of the Spiderman live-action TV show and Superman III with Richard Pryor and I remember how much worse it could be. . . :) Hmmm. . .what was the worst superhero adaptation ever? The Dr. Strange TV movie and Howard the Duck had to be up there. . .

Mini-Moot ended up involving Troy. Ugh, bring out some real men.
Longer report tomorrow, maybe. We did nothing much and it was just Clare and me. G'night.

The 1979
Captain America starring Reb Brown was pretty painful.
Superman IV ("The Quest for Peace") and
Batman IV ("Batman and Robin") were both so awful I've never seen either one all the way through.
Hmm, I kinda liked the Dr. Strange movie... 'course, I was about 14 when I saw it...
To: JenB
I thought Sean Bean did pretty good as Odysseus.
Have a good night!

The Reb Brown
Captain America was what I was going to say next, too :) BTW do you remember that MST3K he was in?--LOL!
Strangely enough, though, I liked the Captain America movie, and I liked the Dr. Strange movie, too, even though like I say I'd nominate it for one of the all-time worst. I must have MSTY sickness or something: I like bad movies! :)
Did you see the David Hasselhoff version of Nick Fury on the SF Channel? I was expecting that to be the worst of all time but it was only moderately bad; still probably mentionable though for the simple fact it had Hasselhoff in it.

Oh, yeah, on this part:
Superman IV ("The Quest for Peace") and Batman IV ("Batman and Robin") were both so awful I've never seen either one all the way through.
Same here! I've only watched these, as well as Superman III and the other sequels to the first Batman, out of the corner of my eye--the kind of movie I might have on in the background while I'm doing something else but not really pay attention to. I pretty much quit actively watching Superman after the second movie and Batman after the first.
I've also seen clips of a 1943 Batman serial that looked like it may have been pretty bad, though I've never actually seen it in full.
