Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

But I told her if she'd do the planning, I'll go along.

LOL- maybe that's why women lose weight so slowly on Atkins. We're too stressed doing all the work! (just kidding...sorta) But it does take a lot of time and energy to plan, cook, and do it right.

Did it accomplish anything?

Well, not exactly. When I lost the 50 lbs. last year I prepared 5 out of 6 of the daily meals/snacks and even then did 50% of the family dinners.

And, during the school year, I do more than 50% of the housework and childcare. I do ALL of the maintenance (we contract out the big stuff) and yard work.

Not really....One guy gave a report on setting up his runoff study. I think we determined that the sure way to break a drought is to start a water runoff study. :)

But not as much to lose as you used to! Progress is progress.

The most important thing, however, is to be mindful of your health- especially as the anchor and head of your household. (And that goes for all others of the male persuasion 'round here.) Your families need ya more than you know.

Like you need more stress. ;)

Take pictures! Better yet, get a video camera. ;)

I can take pictures out the wazoo. I want to be able to remember the emotions. ;-)

Heh, Pastor's wife gave the Mother's Day "sermon." She kept showing magazine covers with all the things wimmin need to be concerned with and talked about the stress it causes.

Then she gave her 8 points.

I asked the wife "did she just tell yuh how stressed you were and then tell ya thinks you ought to be doin?"

Yep, she did.

Seriesly, I do know that I'm better off health wise than I was a year ago. And, amazingly, while I'm the cousin that has always been overweight, I'm the one who still has pretty respectable blood pressure. My cholesterol is on the "high normal" side.

With all the extra weight I'm carrying, you'd think I'd have more health issues than just arthritis.

Yer a good guy, Corin... and in the future you may be adding "homeschool dad" to the list... a good role model for your sons!

My mom does the housework and cooking and that sort of thing, but that's her job. Dad does things like re-hanging doors. This week he's been building a wall in the front yard where we had a railroad-tie wall, but the ties rotted. But he doesn't do housework.

You get to go home at 4?

I did an errand at lunch so I'm stuck until 5... got my mom a nice bottle of wine as a "thanks for going nuts preparing for this party on Sunday" gift. I couldn't find the one I really wanted to give her (darn state stores!) but found the runner-up.

And I got carded. ;-)

I get to go home at four, yep. Then I get to run around like crazy trying to get some things done before picking up siblings for the jam tonight. And trying not to have any expectations when it comes to who's gonna be there...

You're just now old enough to buy alcohol, right? ;-)

Just don't buy any from Price Chopper if you have siblings along. Grrrrrr...

If they even have those there.

Thanks Jen.

In other news, been back and forth on the phone with the wife this afternoon. Appears their was an FBI drug raid, a shootout, and the suspect is dead.

Just down the street from our house.

My name is Corin and I'm going to be an alcoholic.

Yeah, just old enough. I got carded.

In PA, you can only buy alcohol at state stores. It's a racket. So the wine is more expensive, there is a smaller selection, and the clerks are unmotivated slobs.

Ooohhh... who might be at the jam?

You still have to buy wine in the state stores? We're able to buy beer and wine retail. Just the hard stuff is at the Virginia ABC stores.

And that ought ta be privatized.

Oh, good heavens. Thank goodness they didn't get the wrong address and show up at your house.

On the other hand I don't shed tears for dead drug pushers.

Yeah, beer gets sold at pop-and-beer warehouses, but wine and liquor is state store only. The stores keep horrible hours, aren't open Sundays at all (I was going to get a bottle of wine for a Mother's Day gift but forgot until Sunday, so it was too late), not open any holiday, and have rude clerks.
