Blueberries are starting to come into season...I may get some and have them in my pancakes this weekend.
I've never been a size four. I was a size eight (the only single digit adult size I've ever been) for about a month when I was 13. Ah well.
But I'm down almost ten pounds since starting South Beach, and fitting into jeans I haven't worn for five years or so! Granted, they're still size 12s, but that's just the way she goes. I'm hoping to be able to wear at least some tens, and look good wearing them, which is all I can ask for! And even if I were to get smaller than that on the bottom, there's no way I'll be anything much smaller than a 12 on top. Guess that's both a blessing and a curse. ;-)
I really want blueberries! But one small container was FOUR DOLLARS - for half a pint! I'll wait a few weeks...we will start having fresh berries by sometime in June.
Almond flour is pretty expensive, unless you can get raw almonds and grind your own in a coffee grinder...it turns out just as good. I keep my ground almonds in a baggie in the freezer to extend the life of it...but I have to let it defrost before using because it gets like a brick otherwise!
Ha ha ha!!! TWO GUESSES where I've lost my 6 pounds...sigh...
The natural foods place sells raw almonds in bulk...so I could do that. Though I wonder if my coffee grinder would work very well. Do you use just a regular coffee grinder? And just do a few nuts at a time?
I'm still thinking I may eventually get a BUNCH of stuff directly from Bob's Red Mill. The prices are decent, from what I can tell, but I think the shipping is steep unless you get a bunch of things at once.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could pick and choose? My waist is thinner, which is good, and so is my face...but I sure wish my thighs would take a hint!
Can I join the party? I'm reinducing after a disasterous winter/spring. I got way off track and started putting the weight on again. It's probably futile since I'm TDY to White Sands again all next week- and the good Mexican food is irresistable. *serenity now!!!* Argh!
I just used my regular little coffee grinder, you know the cheap kind with a blade that whirs around?
I put in enough to cover the blade (about a handfull) and whirred it up. It kinda sticks to the edges, but I just knocked it out without any trouble...then I ran my fingers through it to make sure there wasn't any big lumps, I only got about 2-3 almonds that just would not grind up!
It took a while, and I had to let the grinder rest now and then so it wouldn't overheat....
I have a quisenart like thing...I'll try that today and tell you how it goes...do you have a quisenart?
My Bob's Red Mill Almond flour says 3 net carbs per quarter cup, mine is 2 net carbs per quarter cup, because I use the whole nut, brown skin and all...I can't tell a difference in taste.
Compare that to the flour above! 23 vs 2? Ha!
That happened to me once. I was all dressed for work and had put the dogs out when I see this critter ambling across the yard. The dogs saw it and went after it. Well, I don't like them eating stuff like that, so I went out and picked it up with a shovel and it looked dead as can be... stiff and mouth open like that. I thought about what to do with it, I didn't want it in my garbage, thought about but rejected the burn barrel. I had to get to work, so I tossed it over my fence (coincidentally in the spot it had come from) and walked away. Two minutes later it was in the yard again! - looked like it had some kind of possum plan to get across to the other side, so I walked out to it and tried to just herd it across the yard keeping the dogs away. Well, when I got too close, it keeled over dead. Picked it up again with the shovel and put it over the fence on the side it seemed to want to be on, and after a minute or two, off it went!
I think 'playing possum' is a tactic that worked real well for them, until the invention of the automobile.

Mmmm...Mexican food. Something I just can't get here. *sigh*
We have great diners and the like up this way, but not much in the way of GOOD ethnic restaurants of any stripe. A few OK Chinese places, but that's about it. There are lots of good places in Burlington, VT...but that's an hour and a half away.
Are you doing Atkins? Rosie and Jen are doing S. Beach, but I think ecurb, BibChr and I are the only ones doing Atkins. I'm just counting my carbs, which really isn't doing Atkins, because you're supposed to re-introduce items slowly...but Steve is doing it right...he's just now started the 5g more per week fruit rung...he can have blueberries now.
Nope...just the coffee grinder. Don't even have a blender. I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt eventually to get SOME sort of food processor, but since I rarely use anything like that, I don't think about it until I need one!
But if the coffee grinder works, I can do that. I doubt I'll be needing any large quantities, anyway.

Yep, I think that's why this is working for me. For once I'm not constantly looking for my next sugar fix. And I'm slowly figuring out which foods are "safe" in that they don't lead me down that slippery slope again, but most whole grains seem to be OK...like I've been eating oatmeal made from steel-cut oats for breakfast, which doesn't make me crave anything later, and it's sooooo good!
