Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Combustible Boss' Chair? Hmmm... Would be good for the balrog. Though I had in mind something less of a mere combustible nature and more of a *launching* nature. A good start tho.

But I too *am* a boss... maybe my own minions would get me one... Hmmm... gotta think on that.

Wow... a new truck a new wife all in the same day. Did she come standard with the truck or was that an option? :-)

Now that I think on it... I could use a new truck too... guess I should go shopping.

I'm so happy I'm at the bottom of the totem pole! Yeah, the pay is lousy, but I all but completely avoid paperwork. Yay!

Ugh, my stomach's upset and I can't exercise.

My stomach's been upset the past two mornings, but then whatever it is goes away after an hour or so. Wonder if something's going around?

BTW just before I read this I was debating whether to exercise tonight because I have a migraine. I just took some migraine aspirin, so hopefully it will go away enough that I can still get my workout in--actually sometimes it will go away by itself if I start working out. I really want to get my workout in, as it will be my third this week and I'm supposed to get three in a week (three aerobic that is--this is separate from my martial arts workouts which I consider "fun" rather than work), so if I do it'll be out of the way and I'll be free the rest of the week to focus on my "fun" workouts--yay! I want to work on some more staff and sword stuff tomorrow.

Hmm, but someone's supposed to be having a Kenshin marathon tonight.

I'm waiting for the house to get quiet so I can start.

This is SUCH a rough diet, no? ;-)

Strawberries and cream--sounds real rough there :)

BTW this week my aunt was talking about the South Beach diet vs. the Atkins diet; any opinions on that?

It's a full size '04 Chevy with crew cab. Big V-8 and four wheel drive.

I've got an '03 Ford F-150, No bells, No whistles, just a truck.

I think Steve's wife, Crystal is 23 years old but I'm not real good at remembering ages.

For me, Atkins is easier, mostly because I would rather cut my carbs to almost nothing than have their carb-categories... actually what I use is an Atkins variant called "the Protein Power Plan", which I think has a less strict induction phase.

Plus, South Beach Diet doesn't like the 'low-carb' chocolates and ice creams, so I understand.

Can we all vote to make this Friday?

Folks around here don't bother to ask me what day it is since I retired. I always say - Saturday.

Hmm--the launching car seat in Cannonball Run might be an option then :)

But I too *am* a boss... maybe my own minions would get me one... Hmmm... gotta think on that.

We sell asbestos seat covers for that situation :) Either that or don't accept any gift chairs from your own minions!

I think they're both good, but depends on the person. South Beach is a little like a condensed version of Atkins with more emphasis on foods that are low in saturated fat...i.e. it discourages bacon and such. Otherwise, it's a bit like you took all the steps of Atkins and put them closer together. As I understand it, eventually on Atkins you can have fruit and whole grains and beans and all that, but with South Beach you can have almost ALL veggies and beans right away, and fruits and whole grains after the first few weeks. Like I'm already eating oatmeal for breakfast some of the time, and if I wanted to, I could try adding some brown rice to meals. And we don't do ketosis...I don't completely understand that process, but that's a bit part of Atkins, I think.

Because it's condensed, I'd say South Beach MIGHT not work as quickly for people with a lot to lose. Seems like most of the success stories I've heard about South Beach are for people who only had thirty pounds or so to lose. But they both get you to about the same place in the end.

Jen, feel free to correct my errors! ;-)

Hmm, but someone's supposed to be having a Kenshin marathon tonight.

I'm having my Kenshin marathon between posts/emails!--see your inbox :) I don't usually work out until 11 pm anyway, so I can watch 'til then, and afterwords! I should be well into Disc 3 by the end of the night.

It allows sugar-free treats...but since it isn't a low-carb diet in the strictest sense of the word...maybe that's why they don't really encourage the low-carb foods? Basically my book says if you're going to treat yourself, have the real thing, but only once in awhile. On the other hand, things like sugar-free fudgesicles are listed as a good snack.

Thanks for the insights! My aunt says the problem she's having trying to follow her diet is she loses weight if she stops eating bread, but then her body starts craving bread. She also has diabetes, so I don't know if that plays a role.

I bet one or the other would help her stop craving bread, after the first few weeks. I have will-power for the first time in I don't know HOW long. Ever?

Good evening all...

Came home this evening to find one of these in the grass next to our sidewalk:

(not the actual possum in question, I found this pic on a website about possums)

Anyway, I figured it was a "gift" from one of the neighborhood cats, or perhaps it had fallen off the roof (it's been raining heavily today) so I scooped it into a plastic bag and put it in the garbage.

Now, however, I find out from the website I got the pic from that it may have not been dead, but actually "playing possum"; the one in the pic is, and the one in our yard looked almost the same. Of course, ours was attracting flies, so I dunno...

Anyway, I figure I'll go out to the garbage can in the morning to see if he's still dead, alive and angry, or alive and managed to get out...
