Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

So, when're ya gonna tackle The Silmarillion, The Book(s) of Lost Tales, The Unfinished Tales etc.? :)
To mix my genres, "You have much to learn (or rather, enjoy), young Padawan."

Ha!!! I'm here working my tail off on this video project at the office today and got this official email from the Office of Institutional Advancement (PR) here. It has to be inspired by the wedding of HairOfTheDog and ecurbh!!!
Email excerpt:
"Since [name of dean of student services] launched the summer season today with the first of his summer Hawaiian shirts, several requested that the 2nd Annual [insert dean's name] Hawaiian Shirt Day be declared. So, next Thursday, May 13, is officially declared as the 2nd Annual [insert Dean's name] Wear-Your- Hawaiian-Shirt Day at Vernon College."

Efforts to place me in a Hawaiian shirt west of Pearl or east of Diamondhead will meet with firm resistance.
Within those bounds, resistance will be mild, but noticeable.

Calories burned in the back forty - mowing... I seeded here, and I want to toughen and thicken it up a bit by keeping it mowed when the horses aren't on it.
The horses won't eat this tall canary grass that looks bluer than the rest and grows four feet tall if I left it. If I knew for sure cows would eat it I might get one.
Ecurbh helpin' me with the rest of it.

Me mum's off on vaca, and I get to go over to her house this weekend and see if the verge needs trimming...and not a Gamgee in sight! :( Oh well, good excuse for a road trip.
Bit of trivia from the History Channel last eve: The first shot fired by an American combatant at a German combatant in WWI was fired...on Guam.
Guam.
I dig on stuff like that...

So - how did the Guam thing work?
We have an interesting historical place here where there was almost a shooting war started between us and the British over a pig... The Pig War: How a pig almost changed American history
