The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread
Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads
. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Neat pictures. For some reason I always think of Oklahoma as being brown, dry and dusty with no trees and not much water. It looks almost like paradise in those pictures!

See ya - I won't be on much today either... got chores up here getting ready for company!

Me too. My son was stationed in western OK. I was really surprised at the difference.
To: DouglasKC
Well I think parts of OK are like that. The locals call where I live "mountains", :) but there really not much more then hills. In the spring we get lots of rain, but in the summer things do dry out quit a bit and the trees will get brown and/or dust covered and won't look so lush. This is just a very pretty time of the year.

Awesome picture. You and your horse smokin:')

I don't think I've posted a picture of me riding, I got Mack to take one today when I ran the barrels. I still need work. My inside hand is to high, and I'm leaning forward some. The horse doesn't look like he's getting his butt under him quite good enough, but we're still learning

Next one is your hill Cindy. Cindy told me when she got to the bottom she came down it with her eyes closed.:)

Just for a couple of seconds when we started dropping down and then I opened them:') You know, the point of no return. I knew he had done this before but I didn't know to lean back and I was leaning forward with the horse and felt like we were bothing going to topple forward. It doesn't look as steep in the picture. Becky gave me an option around but I didn't want to be a chicken. It was a real adrenaline rush. If I had not of had my mind on Eddie I would have wanted to give it another try Sat.:')

When the kids came out Sat and rode it was the first time in a long time we had all rode together. You know how that is we got to be nostalgic. When we got to that hill I told Charlie how that hill scared me to death when we first started riding. I've taken several new riders down it and they always say after they get down, that is was scary. I'd rather go up one then down.

Well, I'm shuting down here in a few minutes. Going home to change and then to the stables. It was raining again earlier but it has stopped for now.

Ok you two, I want to pick your brains a bit about dressage stuff.
I think it was AAM who said that when you are cuing to make a turn you cue with the outside foot in front of the cinch, and the inside behind the cinch.??
What part of each leg/foot are we talking about?
When I cue on the outside I am using the toe of my foot mostly, and on the inside the calf of my leg..???? If he doesn't really listen good on the calf I turn my heel in and use the spur????
