The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of him and hearing more about him though!

Batten down your hatches for this storm.... look forward to hearing from you when you are back safe.

I'm so glad you ride English saddle, as if there were any other kind. ;) (Preparing for getting hit with flying spurs. Sorry cowboys. ;))

No problem, we're pretty much use that from English riders:)

Ahem, Who or what is an English or Western saddle for that matter?

How about a real saddle, a battlefield proven design at that.

No "Girlymen" saddles here,BorderStates Leatherworks

Thanks:), actually it won't bother me either way it goes really. I know I can sell him sometime. He's a great horse. This has been a big lesson for me too. Never do this again:). People want to try my horse they can come here.

I know. That's why I didn't say "sell" to them because I've read several times you have thought about doing otherwise:')

:)

I still think they are probably going to buy him. The trainer was suppose to see if he was a "kid broke jumping" horse before today's vet check. I think if he hadn't passed that test they would have canceled this $500 vet check. Since I haven't heard from them, I'm assuming he has passed. I can't imagine the vet finding anything wrong with him, altho my son told me vets can pick a horse apart.

Well, I think they will too . I just hope they don't have S TX roots and try to give you negotiation problems though:')

I can understand you not wanting to do it again. These people just ain't normal. There's careful buying, and then there is this.

I prefer bareback, myself. I love riding without stirrups. Don't understand why so many people hate it.

I take the stirrups off sometimes but bareback an adventure I'm still looking forward to:')

I was looking on line and I can sign up for horseback trail rides at the park. There were two I was really interested in. The wedding at 7pm Sat. I'm going to be there late Thur night. How long can it take to set up? Anyway, my son says he can't go with me. My FDIL doesn't want him doing anyhing before the wedding . She's afraid he might fall off and get hurt. Sigh. Best she just bubble wrap him up I guess:'). I understand and I suppose I would be the same way, well nah lol

Man, there was a pricey baby at the sales yesterday. 8 Million for a Storm Cat colt. The agent refused to say who he bought it for. I bet it was somebody from Japan or Saudi Arabia

Even if I had that kind of money to spend on a horse I still don't think I could do it. The way I see it horses are only good from year to year.

I could not either. One of my problems is that if I bought one of those horses I would never race him, so he would never make money LOL. If I had that much money I would get a ranch and buy all the racehorses no one wanted so they could live out their life happy. I like the farms that retrain them for other things.
