Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Well, I'm off to bed. Jenny's brought the horse home. She got 4th in poles, so she won back the entry fee:)

My past experience with a burned-out tractor clutch means that the tractor has to be taken apart to replace it. That is a considerable job to undertake as the tractor is separated in the middle and one half is moved away in order to get to the clutch. That is no big deal to an experienced tractor mechanic with the proper tools and stands, to support each half of the tractor while it is apart. Kinda pricey though.
Good pictures and it looks like he has turf tires on the rear of his tractor. Can't tell what make/brand it is but I think it is an import model.
A rainy day is when there's no horse involved. A rainy barn day is when you're at the barn and it's raining, so instead of doing stuff outdoors that you normally would do, you do things inside the barn, like groom, and clean loads of tack. :-)
My brother tried to mow the lawn once. He put the blade down too far, and all we had left in the yard after that was dirt. The lawn has never lookd the same since then.
I spoke to soon on sending the rain your way. It is still hanging around this morning. : )
Well the rain is making its way over here. Or maybe it's a different front. Either way, it's here for the next couple of days. :-)

I think it was the clutch on the brush hog itself. Said something like "fine, I don't need a clutch".

I started Sarah Lee out on the corn oil too. She licked the bucket dry:')
So she likes the oil? - how about Okie?
How much are up up to giving them? I maxed out at about a half a cup.
Let us know if you see any improvement... You should at least start seeing a shiny coat... improvements in their feet are prolly harder to see.
Funny about getting moisture in their feet.
When we first got horses all the farriers said to put hoof dressing, no particular kind around the coronet band to get moisture in their feet.
Now is all I hear is that really doesn't do much, they need to be taking something orally. Does anyone really know:)?
So yeah, Cindy, let us know if you see improvement.

I use a 1/8 measuring cup. 4 scoops will get me to a 1/2 cup. Okie at 2, goes to 3 next week. I started her at 1. It's hard to tell on him because he's been so dirty lately. He was fading and his coat looking a little darker to me.
Oh, and I forgot, my vet told Kristy when she was having trouble with Rowdy's feet to put dry milk in his feed??? I guess there is a supplement you can buy, but my vet said it wasn't much more then dried milk. Every hear that one? Kristy thought it did help, that he grew more hoof wall. She stopped having trouble with him loosing shoes. Coincidence??

My farrier said to feed oil, or hoof feed supplements, that topicals didn't do much ;~D
Mine are looking good now, and I am not doing anything in particular. The last time I fed oil, it was for coat more than feet.
Okie may get picky when I stop his iron though. He didn't care too much for it.
I haven't heard that one... is it the calcium?
