The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

"Hahaha. Well, welcome. :-)"

Thanks! I had to go outside to talk to the lawn guy. He was mowing the yard in the dark before Frances got here. Had to tell him that Frances was not coming this way tomorrow. : )

Those trees are so cool, and they are on your property:)

I'm so jealous.

I love the way the pony follows. Kind of stopped to graze, and I'll bet she took off as soon as Bay was out of sight:) LOL.

Becky

When a horse bucks his shins some trainers use "pin firing" for a quick "cure." I don't know if there are other names for it, but it's like an electromagnetic therapy, where literally burn the bone. I have never seenit done before, but you can tell if the horse has had it if you look on their front legs below the cannon bone and see little pin marks.

"What's your lawn guy doing mowing in the dark?"

That is what I keep asking him. He replies that he can mow better after dark with lights on his riding mower. I tell him to show up when it is daylight next time. He will the next couple of times then it is back to dark again. Argh! : )

My pastor won't do marriages either unless they go through counseling first. I think it's a good idea. Counseling has cut down on divorce rates. I mean, the ones who do it don't get divorced have the time that people who don't go through with it do.

There are still some trainers that do that at racetracks. They are usually the older ones that you can't get to use new therapys. It's one of those "I did it 30 years ago, it still works best" things.

Somehow, I get the feeling that Cindy is going to be the one carrying the "Ceremonial DoubleBarrel." And holding it on all three, the bride, groom and Pastor, "Get this show on the road." : )

Well if those are the statistics, that's good. I guess I'm showing my age but people used to stay together because of their vows though. Should not this be a mother and fathers job to teach a child about being a good wife or husband? Pay no mind to me. I'm just frustrated. I don't like loose ends:')

Don't get me wrong. I'm a Christian but lately preachers seem like cops. They are always around until you need one. (SorryLDK31:')

Speaking of cops, I went through a checkpoint today. All "Mein papers vas in order" so I passed through ok. Others weren't so lucky and there were 10 or more vehicles on the sides of the highway. Drivers were standing outside their vehicles with papers in hand, I guess waiting to talk with a policeman there. When I came back through a couple hours later it was an empty intersection again, as it normally is.

I'm conditioned. Don't get smart or joke. Just say "yes sir" when asked if a US citizen and don't try to pet the dope dog:'). You can't get out of here withut going thru one. I haven't seen any of the "let's see what we can find" ones lately though.

You can download pics to photobucket if they are on your computer first. So if you can get pictures from your phone to your computer, sure.
