The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Could a horse back up? I was wondering about that last night. I hate to get anywhere that only has one way out. It looked very narrow but did you have room to get off?

Sorry to leave you all hanging. Tami just left from bringing Trash back. You know Tami, she had to talk awhile. Now I'm off to bed. Great pictures. Can't wait to do it again. We should plan a once a month thing. Leave on Sun. evening and come home Wed. afternoon.

Beautiful scenery. Whereabouts is that?

It takes about 2 minutes for me to download each picture. It should say how long it will take at the top.

Tell Eddie you need DSL or a cable modem. I cleared my cache so I could check the load time. It took 5 seconds to load the page and all the images. Of course, its late at night and traffic on the network is low, so its always a little faster than during the day.

HMM. I don't know. Seems like a lot of creativity was going on :')

Heheheh, not really. Friday night was very nice. Stacy lit Shabbat candles. Our first Shabbat together (sigh). :o)

Yes, I like her. But I'm still gonna take it slow. I've only known her for about two months. So far, she seems pretty normal (i.e., not nuts! ;o). Hopin' for the best! :o)

The scenery pictures were taken at Robbers Cave State Park. It is south and east of us. Near the OK, Ark. border.

We had a little girl at my old barn who could ride like the wind. The kid had no fear at all. It was kinda scary... :-p

Do you know if this will be to insure the horse, or for the kid in case of injury??

It's horse insurance most likely :-)

I leased my horse off of the place where I worked. It cost me a little over 100 dollars a month, and I was responsible for the farrier bill. Full care for a borded horse costs about 300 dollars. But it's more rewarding to take care of your horse. :-) It can be cheaper if you have rough turn out, or if you agree to include your horse as part of the lesson program. (The lesson program thing I do not recommend) Welcome to the thread!

Yeah, Harley is gone:(. But I think he is going to get a really nice home. I'm about 95% sure from the trainers reaction yesterday that she will reccommend that the people buy the horse. She just wants a little more time to be sure.

Oh, you mean "uploading". Still, I'm surprised it would take that long, unless they have very heavy traffic on their site. You should try it early in the morning or late at night, and see if its faster. I use Ofoto.com for getting prints from my digital camera, and I can upload 10 files ranging from a few hundred to several hundred kilobytes each in 20-30 seconds.

So this would be considered part of the Ozarks?

I was just sitting in my garden drinking my coffee, waiting on Trash to finish his breakfast. I was thinking the garden really was starting to look overgrown again. I can't believe that darn tree:). It's huge again. And the morning glories are taking over the fence, but I have alot more blooms this year then last. It's really pretty. I was wondering how your petunias did after you pruned them back?

One not too bad but I don't get a discount for a second horse. That's one of the reasons I'm looking for pasture land and as you say I want to do my own care. I think you can miss out on a lot when you don't.

If you live in the city though it's not a bad way to still be able to have a horse.
