The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Camping trips are fun! I am filled with envy.... I ~know~ you won't laugh at me while I am learning how to drive truck and horse trailer, so I certainly will sympathize with you.... For awhile, I'll just not be pulling in anywhere I have to back out of.

Which makes it hard to get the trailer here. This will not be an easy place to learn how to get into. No place to turn around.

Well, we've been out spreading weed and feed in the front yard. We put up some temp field fence to hopefully keep the pets off it for a few days.

Backing is easy. Just check all around first to make sure what you have to miss:), then after that use your mirrors. They reverse everything for you. If you see the trailer coming around turn towards it, if it's disapperaing turn the other way. If you look back you have to remember to do things opposite then what it seems, but mirrors reverse it for you.

I've never had trouble pulling a trailer with a truck. When the kids were home we had a four door long bed Chevy truck and a 4 horse slant with tack room goose neck trailer. The RV shouldn't be that much differnt, just taller.

I have to run to town to get supper BBL.

Wowsers. A 28 foot RV WITH a horse trailer? Holy crud, just to let you know, you have my undying respect if you can pull that off. :-) Which I'm sure that you can. Heck, you already have my undying respect by even thinking about doing it! :-)

I have more trouble hooking up then I do backing. My family has learned to stay in the house while I'm hooking up. I hate it when someone tries to guide me, hell, I hate it by myself too. That's the hardest part. If you an hook up your 3/4 of the way there:)

I wish all of you could come. What a blast that would be.

The girl that owns Trash just left. She came and rode in the arena. Brought another horse with her that is rather spooky. She got loose and we had to chase her around the yard. We finally caught her because she had stopped to make friends with Rocky, YIKES:)

Well, have you been out again with your friend? I hope you're having fun:)

Yes we are! :o)

I saw her last on August 8th. We met in Milwaukee again, and went to the State Fair. It's the first time I've ever gone, and it was a lot of fun! I'm going down to Chicago to see her this upcoming weekend.

Just 3 more days till we leave:).

Where are you headed?

The best thing is, if the RV breaks down, you can go ride for help! (I was gonna say you could have the horse pull the RV, but I didn't think Becky would find that funny. ;o)
