The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Cindy was rabbit hunting today. I couldn't get the camera fast enough. One was in the back yard. I don't think she would hurt it if she caught it though.

The 2nd horse (or 3rd lol) that I was thinking about was a wash. She had a bowed back leg and the owner really wanted to sell her to a child. She said anything over 150 lbs and she would get stiff after riding. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

Bummer. Do you mean a bowed tendon? or a conformation defect crooked leg?

Because though they will be painful when recently injured, Bay has an old bowed tendon injury that resulted in a bump you can see on one back leg. It's been there 15 years at least, and doesn't cause him any trouble now at all, or when he was racing.

Not sure. I was given a flyer and called. The owner just told me her back right leg bowed in some so I was thinking genetic since she didn't talk about an injury.
She did offer to loan me a second horse that she wanted to keep though. She had never met me but just knew who referred me. Horse people different huh? I didn't know what to say. It really took me by surprise. I appreciated it but I think I'll pass on that too though because I don't want to be responsible for someone elses property.
The owner of the stable here also has given me a loner If I want her but I would have to let Eddie ride my boy because he said there was no way he was riding a horse named Buttercup:') Men!

A friend bought a paint named "Beaux" pronounced "Bo". Well, he thought it looked French or Gay or both, so he just changed it to "Bo". :~D

I plan on getting a squirrel feeder this winter. I like watching him too. But he empties the bird feeders soooo fast.

It was so funny when I first moved the feeder he would jump from the tree and land on top and it would swing wildly, most times is flung him off. I got a picture of it once, but accidentlly erased it before I realized it was on that disc:(.

Last year I had two eating out of them.

What kind of dog is she?

My Gidget has killed a couple bunnies here... I have a lot of them, and she's gotten a couple babies. She's too slow to catch the adults...

But I remember a camping trip by a river, where my little Zulu dog, the cocker, chased a rabbit out to the edge of a rock spit, where it was trapped against the river. That rabbit turned around, leaped straight in the air towards her and ~screamed~. It sounded just like a child wailing. It scared the dickens out of Zulu. Course, Zulu was not a lot bigger than the rabbit, and her joy was only in the chase, I think ;~D

She's a lab. She was about 6 months when I got her from the pound. I think she was trained to hunts ducks. She hates water and men in fatigues. Nothing comes across her yard. She will chase and play but I've never seen her hurt anything.

We have had our lake lot probably 3 years now. The camper has a big window that is about 4 feet from a tree. Every year a red bird comes back and will see herself in the window and fly into it. She does this over and over. I'm going to take her picture if she's there the next time we go back.

Wooohoo! Glad to hear that Rusty and Harley are doing better. That was quite a scare on Rusty's part.
