Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Believe it or not that mare use to look like Arnold Swartznegger:), she had muscle on muscle. Doot use to say she could bite nails in two:). That mare even with her problem got rode at the least 4 X's a week for no less then 3 hours each time. Mack figured up one time I rode her 2 years running 1500 miles each. You don't know how hard it was to give up on her:( Broke my heart.
Becky
Sorry for the multiple posts but seeing her is bringing back alot of memories/regrets. Doot warned me yesterday that when I would go pick her up to make sure someone was there because she had gotten real spooky and flighty because no one had really messed with her in so long except to feed her.
I went down there hollered for her and she came walking towards me, when I got to her she stood perfectly still, let me put the halter on her with the other horses milling around, walked her out of the pasture and loaded right up in the trailer with NO hesitation.
I wish there was some way to know what her problem was. If I thought I could 100% for sure get a straight answer from a vet I'd take her. But I'm afraid of spending loads of money and still not being sure.

Don't apologize for multiple posts! - They beat the horse head in the road story! ;~D
I remember you talking about this mare, but I bet AAM doesn't, you should tell her about it. If I recall, she would go great for a long time, and then have some kind of odd scary panic episode for no apparent reason, do I remember correct? My memory is fuzzy on it.
She looks good for no grooming in awhile! - She's a little fat, but then.... so are mine! ;~D
I got more mowin' to do.... back in a bit!
belle looks good, i am glad you decided to breed her again, rocky makes pretty babies. let me know if there is anything i can help you with if you need it. just call and let me know.

You can run to town and pick me up a pizza, and be quick about it.
BigMack
BTW, me and Bubba are going to a playday tomorrow at Skiatook. If you want to go with us let me know and you can ride with us.
Hi everyone else, be back later. :~}
thats not on my list of helping items. that will have to be left up to you to go to town. i am folding clothes and cleaning up some.
dana
becky, i got you six eggs today, hoping that many tommorrow. if i get that many everyday i will have plenty for you to hatch (these are from the big hens)
dana
Anyway, wonderful pictures. Thanks for posting them. I miss being around horses so much.
I'm having computer trouble, forgive this non-post
Becky
She is a really pretty mare.
And I do like your stallion. Really a pretty buckskin.... What has been the dominant color between Bay and Buckskin? Bay is pretty dominant, I think, but you might get a dun stripe or something from him I would think. Does he throw buckskin babies?
Forgiven! - I think Free Republic is having trouble. I couldn't get in a minute ago.
Thanks - I do hope you get back into horses again. They're good for the soul!
Thanks.
I just got back from town. Some lady called me last night, I had been asked if it was ok for her to call me, who is a customer of the Jenks feed store. Her children had hatched out eggs for a science project and the person who was suppose to take the chicks backed out. The girl at the feed store after asking me if it was OK to give my name told her to call me I would take them. I met her in town she brought me 8 chicks. One is a cripple tho.
She asked me if I would take them next year as they really enjoyed doing it. I said sure.
The funny thing is her husband was with her, and I said "I might not should tell you this but I live in the country and have a problem with coyotes. So, I will take all I can get but they may not make it" The husband said that's OK we understand but the lady seemed a bit divided on rather to give them to me.
Anyway, I had a big long post all typed telling AAM about what my mare does and my computer did something, I don't know what, I'm use to the webTV, I hate this thing. Anyway I lost it but will try to redo it later. I have to cook supper now.
Becky
Oh how frustrating to lose your post. I hate that.
It wasn't just your computer trouble. Lots of others too. Free Republic went down.
I would love to go with you, BUT:) tomorrow is the last night of 24. I know I can record it, but I want to watch it tomorrow and be done with it. Are you off tomorrow?
Becky
So far the babies have always taken after their mother, IOW's we haven't gotten a buckskin yet. I decided to try Belle because her mother was a bucksking so she has the gene for it I would guess. The odds, from what I have read are pretty good of getting a buckskin sometime. She has only had 1 baby.
I have read you don't want to breed a buckskin to buckskin because you run to big a risk of getting an albino. And one time Rocky bred a palamino mare (before we had him) and the baby was albino. So I won't risk it. Belle seems my best chance of getting one, but you know if the babies all turn out as good as Dot I don't care if they're pea green:)
Becky
Oh well that makes me feel better. Mack always tells me the computer only does what I tell it too, and if something goes wrong it's me:)
Becky
What good are ya?
How come you ain't working?
BigMack
That is true! I don't think anyone expected a bay foal without a speck of white on her when we bred this paint mare to a paint stud. Was hard not to be disappointed. But she turned out to be a really fine horse too. I think she is barrel racing now. I'd buy her if she came up for sale again. (That's my Bay there with my friend on him.... fifteen years ago.)
