Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
My daughter just hatched out around 35 guineas and we are going to get half of those when they get older.

Are you taunting me? .........:)
Damn, it's 11:00, This thread is killing me:)

No, We have just got into hatching chicks and anything else we can hatch. Have a few peacock eggs in the oven now along with more chickens.
That's nice. A 16-2 Arab is a lot bigger horse than a 16-2 TB, simply because the TB has a lot of his height in protruding withers. I believe a 16-2 Arab would do me fine. The only problem I really have with Arabs is that it makes me nervous when my horse is smarter than I am. I know one Arab mare who's so smart I'm getting her to do my income taxes next spring.
LOL

Catch ya'll later, gotta go, have alot to do tommorrow.
He's full Arab but he is tall for a purebred. A real measured 15.2 (I know all owners say their horse is 15.2 but he really is ;~D)
It is a felt pad, which I like well enough and then the saddle guy has added foam to the middle of it to help fill his back...(it is my first western gear ~ever~ so I don't have another preference) ... The cinch and the breastcollar is that fuzzy stuff.
But, but.... it's early still here on the west coast....
I'm gettin to old for this late nite party thing...its gettin to wild anyway. :) Catch ya all later, so glad you did a horse thread. nite.
~stomps foot~.

OK - Good night. Looking forward to Arab pics tomorrow.
Below: This is Bay in my gear with my previously mentioned far too pudgy self on him. He has a big frame for an Arab compared to the very short backed profile of other Arabs I've had.
I like how Bay moves, he'd have made a good dressage horse if I'd have had him younger. At 22, he resented learning collection and really hates the work. His heart is on trail. Maybe my next horse will do dressage. Maybe I will be thin again, maybe a lot of things... ;~D
Looks like you have some awesome places to ride. Unfortunately all the land is being developed near the farm and our trail riding is becoming very limited.
I hope you folks unplug the electric fences while riding in fenced corrals?

I have a good friend who did quite a bit of hospital time as the result of his horse's bit touching an energized electric fence. Yikes!!...what a wreck.
Those trails and places are all on our property. It is pretty, and this is a gorgeous lush time of year.
Actually.... It is always on... and it's a little decieving, we are further from it than we look. Those are my fences, and Bay knows they're on all the time. I couldn't make him touch them if I tried. And gotta keep that pony on the other side while I ride. But good warning!
Well, good morning ladies!
