Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

You know I went to a horse aution, looking for a trailer, right? Well, it was very interesting. I walked around the horses seeing if I could identify problems. I'm sure I missed a lot of stuff but I did actually see a horse cribbing big time, one that had marks across his butt and one with a memo that said he could be carrying some kind of recessive gene defect. I looked it up later. It was something Becky had told me about a long time ago that I forgot about.
i mostly go to auction for the tack because sometimes i feel really bad for some of the horses.
I always feel bad for the horses at auction. If I went to the sales, I'd go broke.
i always get mad because i feel that some people don't appreciate thier horses like they should. and some they should have put down instead of taking to the sale and put the horses thru the stress.
Did you have a good weekend? Did you find any trailers worth buyin'? What was the memo about?
I agree. It breaks my heart to see the old horses that have put in a lifetime of service who are treated that way at the end. They all get to me.

Yeah, most were really nervous. I didn't need any tack. There might have been some good buys on some saddles but the other stuff not much cheaper than what I could by.

They only trailer was a 3 horse slant for 800 but it wasn't in much better shape than the one I have. It was heavy, a gooseneck and red lol. I'm looking for something lighter.
