Hey Hair. The big day coming up fast:') My DIL bought her dress about 3 months before her wedding and she had to try it on almost every day to make sure it still fit. The top was made snug and it was a real fear for her:')

I'm kind of holding off on all but the turpentine till I get ALL the shoes off and see how they hold up. Still never seen hide nor hair of the farrier. Waiting now on my son. He's going to borrow a friends tools and come pull the ones that haven't come off on their own. But the hoofs that are missing shoes seem to be doing fine. I can see a difference in the soles already. Before when I cleaned their feet out and scraped the sole with the pick the sole would, you know, kinda get flaky white stuff where it scraped. Now the hoof, even the ones with the shoes still on are hard and nothing flakes off.

What I have been doing is putting the turpentine on before I leave to ride and then clean them again when I get back and spray them with iodine.

Do you use any kind of hoof dressing on the hoof walls to help with dryness. With my horses drylotted most of the time, their feet tend to dry out. I'm looking for something to put directly on the hoof, rather then a feed supplement.

Well, what brand? How does his hoof wall seem to you? Dry, moist, too moist?

Don't know. I haven't opened it yet. Just something I bought for him. I'll get around to it. As far as his wall, that depends if it's before or after I wash um:') (looks fine to me but what the hell do I know:')

The hoof dressing I have on the shelf is Rain Maker. It's oily goopy stuff. We don't get a ~lot~ of dryness here, just a couple months maybe in the late summer. When I have noticed that they were all dried out, I noticed it in their coat first. I actually had the best results feeding them corn oil in their feed, starting out with a little and up to about a quarter-cup. Adds shine to coat and oil to feet without the goopy mess, and I think does more good than topical oil.

Well, I talked to vet. He says my horse is anemic but not sure from what. Going to double worm him and put him on some vitamins and minerals. He said there are types of this generic food that work fine but not for all horses so he's going to look at the type and the protein level tomorrow and then he, the owner and I are going to decide on what changes need to be made.
Since my horse has a problem I think we should cover all bases and put him on something specific for horses maybe that even has the extra vitamins he wants.
I'm going to hold off riding or working him hard until monday though. I noticed yesterday that his breathing seemed noiser when we rode and if horses can sigh it sure sounded like it. He also has been opening his mouth at times like he is yawning. I didn't tell yall this yesterday caz I was afraid yall would laugh at my "first child" behavior.

That's to bad, but sounds like you got it quick so it should be an easy fix.

As far as feed goes, our jorses are on the same pasture that mom told you Charlie's(son) are on, and we started feeding our's Horsemens Edge by Prureina this past winter and really liked it. It does have 12% protine in it, so maybe still to high for Okie, just wanted to let you know.

Didn't come get my saddle today because it was still raining when we were on our way home. We didn't have room in the front and I didn't want to put it the back. I'll get it sometime.

So did you get your book work done, and is dad still alive?:)

We got some pretty good wind down here, we had to pull a tree off to the side of the road so we could get to our drive way.

I want a conue so bad. We saw so many creeks running good today. I think it would be so much fun to float down something like that. Travis thinks I'm crazy, but what else is new.:)

Oh, I got to tell you this. When we were out running around today I saw this two guys getting out of their cars in a blockbuster parking lot and start fighting. Well not realy fighting, the big guy just shoved the little guy and then the got in each other's face. We were to far away by then to see the rest. Crazy.

The protein may not have anything to do with anything but he has gained a lot of weight on the 12%. We started him on the suppliment at the same time so who knows.

The vet was saying that what was seen as hyper may just be irritability if he doesn't feel good. Guess we will find out :') I am going to take him off the suppliment soon though. His hoofs are strong and I can live without a shiny coat. That's what sho-shine good for anyway, right? :')

Yeah, and baths.

Trust me the best kind of shampoo and conditioners to use is the stuff you would use on your hair. When I went to a horse show a couple of months ago I gave our grey mare a bath with a blueing shampoo that we sell at my shop meant for little old ladies with grey hair. It worked great, she almost glowed when I was done.:)

Yeah, I just use baby shampoo. Someone, I think Hair (pun intended hehe) told me I could use washing "blue" also.
