The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread
Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads
. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah, it's not hard once you get all the steps down.
Did I tell you I lost my big black rooster. The other day I noticed he wasn't around. Just a few minutes later, Grizzly caught a mouse and was off playing with it, as I walked to the house I looked back and there was a big coyote out there with him. They were haveing a stand off over the mouse. I tried to get the gate open to get to the house quietly to get the gun, but he heard me and looked at me, Grizzly did too. The coyote grabbed the mouse and took off, and Grizzly went after him. I'm surprised they didn't get into a fight.
So now I'm down to 2 Roosters.

I only know I have a coyote around because I have fewer bunnies and I find tufts of bunny fur sometimes. I haven't seen him this year at all.
I don't worry about him being out in the back forty, there are lots of rabbits out there and he isn't attracted to come closer to the house, nothing to eat. I ~think~ my perimeter fence for the dog would keep out a curious coyote if I were to get ducks or some other easy game. But I don't know for sure.

Just got back. The vet says he's an excellent horse and not fat at all but just filled out. He said he is pale though and thinks he's anemic which he said would explain some of my concerns. He drew blood and said he's probably going to change his suppliment and come back and put him on some medication tomorrow. Okie out playing.
To: CindyDawg
Would be interesting if he is anemic... That Red Cell stuff that AAM talks about is a high iron supplement for that.

Drawing blood is something I want to do to Rusty. Interesting that a filled out horse can be anemic???Guess I don't understand the condition.

He may not be but his gums pale (a sign in humans). Not sure what he was looking at in his eyes but he kept palpating the indention over them and looking at the eyes themselves.
To: CindyDawg
Can they tell how long he has been anemic if he is?

Hey, if my Americauna "pullets" turn out to be cockerals, do you want them? They are supposed to be pullets, but you know how that goes sometimes.
