The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread
Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads
. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah maybe. She'll just want to put him in the stall though. I can understand . The workers don't individualize for the pasture horses. If it comes down to it though I'll do it myself. I'm going to show the vet the tag tomorrow. We looked at the suppliment together though. He said it had good stuff in it but wanted to stop it after the lab back. Didn't want me to make any changes except reduce his portions til then.
None of yall mentioned it so I guess him eating cow food ok, huh?
To: CindyDawg
Ok now, you asked:)
Alot of people do it, but IMO, No cattle feed is not ok for horses. A cows digestion is totally different then a horses. TOTALLY.
IMO, the reason she is feeding cattle cubes is it's the cheapest shit out there. The woman is milking you. You're not knowing is nothing to be embarassed about. She's the one that needs to be ashamed for taking advantage of your not knowing. There are pelleted feeds out there for horses. I thought that was what you meant. You never mentioned before it was cattle cubes. JMO.

The protein issue was separate. I wanted him to see Okie for two concerns. The first was he getting too big and did I need to make a food change? and two why is he getting so hot and sweating so much and I wanted him to look at his feet.
He told me his stance and walk good and no signs of problems with laminitis (ms?)and that he knows my ferrier's work and that he is the best in the valley and the work he does better than any he had ever seen and Okies feet in good hands. He said the stumbling may just be him and some horses do it more than others but if he is anemic that could be causing it.

i sorry to hear about you rooster, if you need another i got my black and the speckled one that you can have. the lady took gator and she seems really nice, they used to raise great danes and she is very willing to deal with his deafness i really liked her and she has 2 kids so he will get the attention that he deserves and needs. she has a 6ft privacy fence so there is no danger of him getting out and getting lost or hit by a car because he didn't hear it.
our next batch of chicks will be hatching tommorrow or the next day so if you want to trade chicks when can do it whenever it is ok with you. you can come over and pick the ones you want.

I am sorry, that last post may have been worded a bit to strongly:)
Let me rephrase. I wouldn't feed a horse cattle feed. That's just me. I am sorry I accused Tita of being dishonest. Alot of people do feed it.

Well, I just saw it today when I pulled the tag off . I have to take some responsiblity here though. I should have checked it out. I have a notebook with all his stuff written down. I just hadn't updated it since the last feed change. I'm going to talk to the vet because I need to start him on my own feeding program anyway because as soon as I find a place he'll be moving but it takes time.

Still doing book work:(
Nah, I don't need another rooster, but thanks. I'm going to have some in the chicks I've got from Beth. Better for the genepool anyway.
Sounds like that dog went to a good home. You did a good deed:)

Becky what was he getting at your place?
To: CindyDawg
I feed to ALL my horses, old, young, in between, Purina Horse Chow 100. It is a pelleted feed, it has 10% protein and hay in the pellets, and everything else that a horse needs.
He got 15 lbs a day spread over 3 feedings. I would supply a salt block, but that is it. You can do it over 2 feedings, I did when I first started using them for about 3 years. Since I'm home I do it 3X's.
It's the best feed in the world, I tell every one about it, everyone tells me they wish their horses look like mine, but very few people will try it because they think horses have to have hay bales. I've been doing it 10 years, never had one colic, and the vets tell me my horses are in excellent condition.

CS, what in the heck is the matter wih those idiots in Bixby. Why did they sound the sirens. So the wind blew, so, we got rain. I swear, when something really happens no one is going to pay attention.
