Well, we were in the basement for about thirty minutes during a severe storm warning. The storm just blew in expectantly and the power went off...and stayed off for over four hours.
My daughter and grandchildren were here. The kids had a ball playing with the flashlights in the dark and watching the storm from a window. They love the drama, you know.
So my husband tells me later that he is just not satisfied with my emergency preparedness with candles and a radio on battery power. No, he is going to buy a generator.
Well, I hope he does buy one, because I am going to purchase a nice piece of jewelry for myself after I see what he paid for the generator.

Wow..some areas of the country have just been battered endlessly with storms.
One tidbit..don't use candles. Out here during the earthquake some were using candles and the news guys reported that the fire dept said not too..in case of another quake the candles could fall and start fires..so use the flashlites ( or torch as they say in Merry Ol').
The generator will be worth it's wt in gold..the sale of them went up when we were w/out power for more than 13 hours..

No, he is going to buy a generator.About five years ago, tired of the constant power outages some of which lasted for days after snow storms brought trees down, I bought a great generator. It still sits on the back porch, never used, its red paint as bright and shiny as the day I brought it home. There has been no power outage since that day.
