Nice pic in #795! :) So that's what a beardog looks like--LOL! I remember when I got my first camera as a kid I got so excited I would take half a dozen shots of the same thing and go through rolls of film like there was no tomorrow--is Elf-boy doing that? :)

Good evening, Fedora! What'cha up to? I'm doing homework. Almost done with artificial intelligence (I'm starting to call it artificial interest; I'm just ready for the semester to end) and then it's time to start dissecting other people's fiction.
Took my sibs to the other bookstore this afternoon and read still more Ranma. It's good to get on a a goofy kick now and then. 'Martial Arts Ice Skating Competition' indeed.

G'nad, good hear from you, been a bit scarce myownself :-) A trip to "Shire-southeast" is on our wish list too. Gypsy girl got a long walk tonight, the bells were playing nicely (often with two hands) and weather was nice.
Tomorrow is Easter Sunday, wishing you and yours a joyous Easter. HE HAS RISEN.
To: g'nad
Thanks for the B-day wishes! My sister baked a cake for me...double sifted the flour and everything! (white cake, chocolate frosting, with pecans on top.)

My sister says we now have beavers visiting....great. Just what we needed, more varmints.
BTW, OB. My violin sister ( not the piano-longbow sister) wants to know if you can make her a crossbow to put on the hood of her car that she can shoot from inside. :)
BBL....we're going to watch Roman Holiday now.

Good evening, Fedora! What'cha up to?Hey, sorry it took me so long to reply to this. I finally went to see The Passion this afternoon and since then I've been catching up on posts in sequential order. I think I just finished catching up on my other threads, so I didn't notice you'd posted me until just now.
Anyhow, how's the homework coming? Learn anything interesting about AI?
What's the Martial Arts Ice Skating Competition about? :) I've sometimes reflected on how certain ice-skating maneuevers resemble martial arts kicks. There's one kick in particular called the Butterfly Kick which is very much like a skating move.

Evening OT; well, a hood mounted cross bow, I dunnna know, that's gonna take a bit a figurin'. :-)
Beaver, kewl. That's one way of controling that rampant tree growth and a way to get your own swimming hole. Beavers are Mother Nature's engineers.
Glad you had a nice birthday with your family. Hope you have a good flight back to "The Land of Ahhh's".
Happy Easter to you and yours.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY Overtaxed!
The cake sounds delicious.
Beavers are worse than squirrels, that is if you like trees.

a crossbow to put on the hood of her car that she can shoot from inside. :) What a great idea! I could use one of those on I-81 on our trip to Florida this year! The truck drivers during the day are such JERKS! That's one reason I prefer to drive at night; not as much traffic and the truck drivers are considerate.

Got most of the homework done. I'll leave the rest for another evening. Right now, I'm just surfing. Not even in the mood to do research.
Martial Arts Skating - in the manga I was reading, Ranma 1/2, everything is martial arts. Heck, there was a Martial Arts Tea Ceremony contest. (The hero's motto is 'if it has martial arts in the name, I can win!')
Basically, all the characters are teenage martial arts freaks. And a great many of them turn into animals, or worse, when splashed with cold water. It's rather twisted, the message seems to be that 'violence solves everything', and it comes off as a cross between a really strange soap opera, a comic fantasy, and a Jackie Chan movie. Anyway one story line involved Martial Arts Skating. Very dangerous. Very amusing.

Good evening Suzi! Did you go to the anime con again today, or was that just yesterday?
I want to see Soupy's picture! Also tell her I'm going through anime withdrawal and need counseling/suggestions/cookies!

The big problem is that you only get one shot, then it's reloading time.
The crossbow was quite an accurate weapon, but was slow to get ready for the next shot, the more powerful it was, the longer it took. Some types used hooks and pulleys, others a windlass, meanwhile yon longbowman was putting an additional six clothyard shafts down range.
The crossbow, like any weapon, does have pluses and minuses. The right tool for the right job, and it is effective.
Kinda reminds me of Gibson's "Road Warrior" steel crossbows on refinery ramparts. Don't recall any being mounted on cars or trucks. Still it's a good thought.

What if we tipped the arrows with explosives? Or maybe a heat-seeking missile?

You can shoot fairly rapidly with a longbow can you not?
I remember reading that Indians could fire them alot faster than our soldiers could fire their single shot rifles.
Jeanne's away for a couple days, so I get to cook stuff that would probably horrify her.
Tonight I had microwaved corned beef out of a can, with fried eggs on top. Tomorrow, maybe boiled kielbasa and cabbage.
Good stuff.

Martial Arts Skating sounds fun in a mindless sorta way :) Speaking of which, you just reminded me of something--hold on, I'm gonna scan in a pic of something for you; check your inbox in about 5 minutes. . .
