Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I think I will just veg until bedtime.

Be sure to include yellow and orange vegs as well as green ones--it's important to be well-balanced! :)

I always see Lone Wolf on the shelves but I've never read it--how was it?

Hi you guys.

I like listening to Enya sometimes...think she is cute, although with a pretty big schnozzle!

Did you all see the thread today on the 1911?
I have temporary, maybe permanent custody of one, an old US army issue Colt that Dad had from WWII I think. It shoots pretty good. I'm kind of excited with it.

Video stuff went better than expected. We were supposed to have heavy storms all day today but God was good and NONE of that came through! It was very warm and sunny all day. So, we got nice weather for being out.

It was... odd. Dark, violent, very adult. The drawings felt too small, like they'd been reduced to fit the pages. The story also was odd. I'm not sure if I liked it, but I will be reading volume two.

I read "Ranma" for relief, after that. Light-hearted comic weirdness. Their martial arts is called the "School of Indiscriminate Pummeling".

But "Lone Wolf" was a real story.

I did see that thread... I'm a Kimber owner myself, and I've been thinking of getting another one. I was pleased to see that Franks may use one as his carry weapon.

You like romance novels? Ack!

Well, Rose is trying to get me to read one, but I can't do that when my brothers are around, they'd never let me hear the end of it.

Speaking of Elk, did I ever tell you a moose bit my sister once?

You know, I was just looking at the pic of GW entering the Hobbit Hole at the top of the page, and I noticed he's kinda in a Six Million Dollar Man pose there--anyone else see that? :)

Sam; those ol 1911's are nice, I prefer them to most new ones. Very good for what they were designed for, ventilation of unpleasant type persons. Had one for a while, way back when, qualified with it, and then sold it during a period of hua. sigh.

Do you ever feel compelled to finish series once you start them even if you don't like them? That happens to me.

That can actually be good sometimes :) BTW, did that stuff on Japanese weapons I sent help any?

I recently read a sci fi thing called "A Fire Upon the Deep," Vernor Vinge, that SuziQ recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed it, will probably go get a copy as I'd like to own it.

Nielson wants us to be a part of their TV audience. LOL, they have no clue! We watch mostly PBS, other than that, for the most part, it's DVD's (Finding Nemo, Harry Potter, and LOTR) over and over and over.

Same here--I tape what I like so I can watch it whenever there's nothing good on TV, which is usually. Just about everything I actually watch on TV is in syndication; practically nothing Nielsen would be tracking interests me, except maybe Fox's Sunday night line-up.

So far no one has been interested in the gun but me, so if that is still the case, I get to keep it. Otherwise, I guess my brothers and I will end up flipping for it. However, it's been hanging on the wall for 15 or so years with no one taking an interest in it. There's a few other weapons, including an old Springfield .06 bolt action that is pretty cool.

Yes, that book is marvelous! Read his "A Deepness in the Sky". I liked it even better than "A Fire Upon the Deep".

Roger that. In the CG I carried a 1911, and it was still one of the original 40's vintage stock, even though mine had only been outta cosmoline for a couple of years. It was a treasure. A 'brand new' fifty year old pistol.

But... those Kimbers are in a whole different league. Yes, it's a dead knockoff of a 1911 and many of the parts are interchangeable, but it has a few slight improvements. The barrel lock-up is the best, and the really tight tolerances are also nice.

An original 1911 will rattle when you shake it. It's supposed to. But a Kimber doesn't rattle. It's made tight. No... you don't wanna use it in a swamp... but right outta the box it shoots like a Gold Cup and gets better from there.
