Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Miami sounds nice, too! I've never seen a storm from sea--that'd be neat, I bet, as long as it wasn't too dangerous. There is a harbor here so I can watch them from the shore sometimes. One of the neatest ones I saw was in Chicago when I was visiting the Shedd Aquarium, which juts out into Lake Michigan somewhat. Towards dusk the wind kicked up and the water rose 'til it was coming way up the breaker barrier and looking like a sort of mini-hurricane knocking against the walls of the aquarium and the road beside it. Pretty neat. Probably nothing compared to an Atlantic storm, though.

Yeah, that's a neat experience, esp. if you have a good porch for it. There was a mild storm here tonight. It's kind of rainy and the rain is pounding against the windows. Always puts me in the mood for a scary movie or a detective movie when it's like that, for some reason.

I think those Lake Michigan storms can be brutal, I've heard about them knocking around the boats pretty hard up there. Chesapeake Bay, too.

You gotta be alert when you're out there on the water. Anywhere in life, for that matter I suppose ;-)

Here it's just not the same. I live in town now. Too many houses. Before there was nothing for miles to the horizon. We could see the northwestern skies for many miles as northers and storms would come in. It was breathtaking.

Interesting details on the knife-making process. Thanks for all the care and hard work you put into that!

I was reading last night about making samurai swords and it mentioned that one expert calculated that by the time the forging process was done, with multiple splitting and folding and welding etc., the resulting bar would have an estimated 4,194,304 layers of metal. My mind boggles at that.

When you were talking about storms on the water I was thinking that it must be something like the storms at home. That distance of being able to watch the weather approach is incredible. The colors and play of light are constantly different. Each storm always seems like it must be the most beautiful one yet... and with such a distance to watch them there are often hours of enjoyment!

Where has your brother gone tonight?????

Ah...you can't chain down that Ramius, he's a mercurial one, he is.

I can vouch that he wasn't at The Rock. Wife and I were there and ran into an old friend from Olympia (now lives in Lakewood). The town is hoppin' tonight. 73 degrees at 8:30 and it's still April! City really comes alive on nights like this. Ramius is prolly around town here somewhere.

73 degrees at 8:30

This is just wrong! For you to be that warm and us COLD is inconceivable!

Glad you had a good time out Scott! Never fear, Ramius is always chained to his cell phone if things become important! He may leave us here .... but he can't leave his phone! :-)
