Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yep...he wants to be a paratrooper when he grows up...and they are too brave to admit they're afraid of Pet Cemetary! LOL

Good night all!

We're having lightning here too, another good reason not to be at sea in an open boat.

Even old beer cans look OK against a turquoise background.

Not only that, Atlantis sunk off Bimini, according to many.

Well, I dunno about lightening out on the water Sam. That doesn't sound too safe to me. Yikes. But, I dunno. I would have to yield that judgement to you experts!

Well, I love storms. And lightening storms are some of the most beautiful things to sit and watch. I also love riding my bike. Somehow riding my bike *in* a lightening storm just doesn't do anything for me!

I love storms, too :) I used to like to sit on the porch and watch them. Of course being in one and watching one can be two different things! :)

Fedora, how does Atlantis=Bimini fit with your stuff?

BTW, I heard the commercial for the Bermuda Triangle show again today - Discovery, Sunday at 9 eastern. You're Central, right?

in Miami, enjoying the storms

They'd be less enjoyable at sea, though perhaps even more beautiful, you get much another perspective from a boat.

I too love storms, and winter, for that matter, and even hot weather that makes you sweat.

Hope to be in Bimini a couple times soon, it's only 45 nautical miles from here (50 from where I sit).

Yes, I agree about watching storms. Myranda and I used to sit out on the porch or in the yard at our old house and watch them for hours on end. There are few things that match that beauty. I miss it a lot!

Between funeral home visits, I've spent some time working on the latest HHD knives. I also mailed out three more today.

As of today, the knife prep process consists of:

1. After laser engraving, the remaining coating is washed off.

2. The thumb stud and blade stop are checked for tightness, and green (penetrating) Loctite is applied.

3. The screws for the pocket clip are removed, coated with blue Loctite, and tightened.

4. The blades are honed on a leather strop.

5. If the blade opens a bit stiffly, a teensy adjustment is made to the pivot lock to loosen it a bit.

6. The knives are repackaged, with two plastic peanuts per box to keep the knife from rattling inside the box.

This may sound like trivia, but these knives represent the Hobbit Hole, and I want them to be in as perfect condition as I can make them. I don't have the talent to whip up a gallon of mean salsa, but I can make sure that I'm sending out the best mechanical devices I can.

That's an awesome bunch of work you're doing on those WM. I am very proud to have your work representing the Hobbit Hole on this! Truly a perfectionist in this you are. :-)

Atlantis is kinda complicated--was just discussing it with blam on another thread earlier tonight. Atlantis per se as defined by Plato's description would be in the Atlantic Ocean just past the Straits of Gilbratar or thereabouts. However I believe there's also some finds possibly indicative of sunken cities off Bimini. Probably there's more than one sunken city out there besides Atlantis. They found one off India also recently, and there's some debated finds off Japan and Cuba, among other places. It's an interesting area to research--especially if you like diving and water-related stuff like I do!

Yes, I'm Central Standard Time. Will make sure to watch that, and also I'll try to review my literature on the subject in the meantime. Hopefully it'll inspire us with some good fiction ideas :)
