Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yesterday we began our trek at the Green Dragon.... Had some breakfast and some pints and studied our map. I have drawn our eventual route on the map there in red.

Soon we began to see mountains...

And towns "stranger than Bree"

And waterfalls under a great hall.

We had no windshield cleaner fluid.

This is an emergency airfield up in the mountains.... a place to land if you are crossing the mountains in bad weather. We took a break here.

We noticed a whole long line of Army trucks... but not our army... Apparently, while we have been focused overseas, we are being invaded by Canadians.

Higher in the mountains we found snow..

We took a break here too....

Down on the far side of the mountains, we find desert. This is Elk country, and we saw some, but couldn't get pictures we went by so fast....

Well.... we got a picture of one elk.... or part of one. This was in a truck stop parking lot. I don't have any answers...

By late afternoon we headed back from flatlands of Eastern Washington toward the mountains... "I am not afraid of heights, I am afraid of ~widths~"
(name the comic?)
We stopped takin' pictures when the sun went down... (YAY! says the dial up crowd!)

Glad it is quiet enough for you to be around! (and otherwise I'd be in a major funkle right now)
Quiet here today.... ecurbh and I needed a trip somewhere. Our prettiest mountain passes aren't open yet from winter... so I look forward to another trip to show him those later.
This is a neat state. I think there is a little something for everyone here, from rain forest to mountains to woods to desert. Most of the US continental climates and terrain variations are found somewhere in the state.... 'cept maybe palm trees.

Yurts are cool. I'm still trying to come up with a justification to get one. Not sure where I'd put it... but they're cool...Well, if you put it someplace and change your mind... You can move it. They disassemble and fit on a willing camel.

Well, they fit on an unwilling camel too, as long as you want to risk it.

Don't underestimate the importance of the camel's willingness... I think the camel's compliance is critical! ;~D
