Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Ah yes, that would be the Gummi Venus de Milo from the episode
"Homer Bad Man". Said gummi gets lost, and when Homer sees it stuck to the babysitter's pants, grabs it (the gummi, that is), and is accused of sexual harrassment.
A group of protesters show up outside chanting,
Two! Four! Six! Eight!
Homer's crime was very great!
[pause]
"Great" meaning "large" or "immense",
We use it in the pejorative sense!
LOL!

Excellent! Any plans for your time off? Or are you just going to relax? :)
To: Fedora
Well, it's more like time off in theory than reality. I don't have to teach classes but I still have a May 31 deadline on the video project I'm working on. So, I'll be working on that... on as relaxed a schedule as I can make it.
Classes start again on June 1... but I got problems with that. It looks like I'm not going to have enough students for my classes to make - which means no cash to do anything with. So, I may have the entire summer off.... but no money with which to enjoy it! bummer.

*cough* *gag* aaaaackkkk! ptui!
Corin spent the day in a bored meeting full of Lie'brals. When they wuz dicussin' the next meetin' date one of 'em pointed out that they would need to avoid "the convention." I wanted tuh scream It's not gonna mater YOU MARXIST PIG!"...but since I'm still on the payroll, I thought the better of it.
"Corin Week" continues in the Stormhands household.
Pool crap - chemical manager said he didn't wanna do it but he wants to do it (he sounds like John Kerry). And the pool cleaner guy is late gettin' started tonight, so the crew I have comin' Saturday a.m. to seal some leaks and paint the lane lines may have tuh wait.
Most importantly, another prayer request.
Wife's uncle (her dad's brother) passed away yesterday, apparently of a massive brain hemmorage. His wife (who had been recovering from a stroke herself) found him and apparently 1) fell 2) had a heart attack 3) had another stroke or 4) all three. We don't know for sure yet. I'm translating this through my mother-in-law and as usual am applying our family "50%" rule (anticipate that things are 50% less severe than they sound).
We do know that regardless of what actually happened, she's in intensive care. And frankly, anyone of the options is ugly. Fortunately her children are in the same city. Wife's sister has been helping at the hospital today too (relaying information, etc.).
They're going to decide what to do tomorrow regarding arrangements, etc.
We're fine, but Nana's takin' it pretty hard.

Well, at least hopefully in any case it'll be more relaxing than having classes! I hope you get enough students for June 1. What's your video project?

I just passed out the final exam to this class. One to go after tonight! The Missus passed back the rough drafts of term papers today. Ye verily they was much weeping and nashing of teeth. And actually that was her whilst she wuz grading them. Fer example: One girl cited an article three times because it had three different authors.
She's out fer a while, but students have been calling all night.
Wife agonizes over this and tries to figger out why they're not getting it. I just tell her:
"Fail 'em. Fail 'em all."

In some cases - no, most cases - it's kinder to fail the morons now rather than later. Maybe if she fails enough of them, the rest will straighten out.

What baffles me is that the parents aren't more strict on the kids. After all they're paying for these classes.
But wife has put students on notice. There will be no leniency. You don't do your work or don't get it in on time, then you don't make the grade. And you can't make it up.

Finished my picture; that I did! This is my first attempt to draw Manga-style. I picked a scene from Kaoru's first meeting with Kenshin in Episode 1:

You've sure got the hair pretty well! And the eyes. Good eyes. The eyebrows are a little off - the eyebrow/hair combination is kind of odd, you almost have to draw the eyebrows on top of the hair (this is according to my sister who knows about art).
Heee, I think it's cute. Great coloring.

Oh, it's a video to market our classes to Juniors and Seniors in high school. Said video is the reason WN no longer is available to post in the Hobbit Hole at least 18 hours a day. Way too much dealing with other people involved with this!

Fer example: One girl cited an article three times because it had three different authors.Argh! Reminds me of when my TA friend used to tell me horror stories about his students. One of our all-time favorite quotes was from a paper a student turned in for philosophy class: "Aristotle was pretty smart, but he had a lot of wrong views on things." Reading this reminded him of the scene from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure where Bill and Ted meet "So-krates" :)
To: JenB
I had to modify the eyebrows because they used some computerized coloring technique I didn't know how to duplicate with markers and crayons and colored pencils. In the still I took this from it's like you can see
through Kenshin's hair to his eyebrows. I'll have to figure out how to do that. The coloring was challenging.
BTW I sent a file version to your email so you can see the details better.

"Fail 'em. Fail 'em all." (((((Corin)))))
I got 2 in this class that I'm expectin' to get that. One of 'em... smart aleck... even the other students think so... already failing the class. He was in class early for only about the 2nd time this quarter. 10 minutes early. Argued with me to go ahead and give him his exam at that time and not wait till class starting time cause his girlfriend is having a bad day and he needs to be at her house by 7:30. He waited till class started to get his exam paper. Imagine that.
He's already gone now. I briefly looked at his exam. He ain't passin'.
