Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Sure.... we have some of those churches here too. I don't know what they do different!
Our is a Lutheran pastor.... went to seminary in Minnesota. Lots of Norwegian Lutherans from Minnesota here. I could hear it in her voice "Ya". But ecurbh said he didn't notice. ;~D

God rest his soul. Prayers for the family as well.
Reading that article brings back too many sad memories for me not to have profound compassion for this man's family and friends.
I don't know if this man was a long-time motorcyclist or not. He died in the line of duty but still I like to think of the sentiment shared by my many friends and I: if we die on the bike, all need never fear that we died happy.
That is no comfort to the many who don't share a passion for motorcycles, but for those who do it is a comfort.

I did ~see~ a bad motorcycle crash once... or rather, the woman who had formerly been on a motorcycle when we went past the crash scene. She was in bad shape and convulsing. A basic understanding of physics told me that there just isn't much to protect you in traffic.

got the wings in the freezer... have your name on 'em... shall I pluck 'em, or just send the whole wings?...
filleted the breasts out... about 4 lbs each... coat 'em in olive oil, sprinkle with sage, garlic and pepper, wrap 'em in bacon, and grill 'em over mesquite chips...

Why was the woman MOVING??? You aren't supposed to be moving when you hear sirens! At least that's how it is in Texas and OK...you either pull over and get out of the way or you freeze and let the police, or EMS or firemen by!
The only thing I can think of is that maybe she thought the sirens were coming from the police car down the street...but I know that when I see an accident or something, there are usually other vehicles arriving that need to be watched out for...
This is just terrible. I see so many times people pulling out in front of EMS and such, or not getting over, making them navigate around...I never hardly ever play my radio because I only have the one good ear and the jedis also help me listen for sirens.

That's one of the cool things about Miami, the first Bahama island, Bimini, is just the other side of the Gulf Stream, only 45 nautical miles away.
On a nice day, which we won't have Friday, White Lightning makes it across in 90 minutes.
Bimini has no casinos, large hotels or fancy tourist resorts, it just has a kind of sleazy beauty, palm trees, beach, azure and indigo sea, lots of beer bottles and trash, people in boats, some weekend fishing types, others on the beginning or end of a cruise deeper into the islands.
You have to go right by the place no matter what your destination is in the Caribbean, except Cuba or the Yucatan peninsula. But all the other islands are best approached east to the Bahamas and then down.

Yeah, that's what it sounded like. The woman prolly isn't even at fault under the circumstances. Sad and it doesn't bring him back. I'm sure the man doing his job felt all urgency in what he was doing to be taking that action too. It's a very bad situation all around.
It remains the responsibility of the motorcyclist always to watch for those who don't see us. We know any safety slip-ups that are not our fault may be those from which we don't recover. I have lost 2 close friends in the last 5 years in those circumstances. Both were good responsible riders but that didn't save 'em.

This is just terrible. I see so many times people pulling out in front of EMS and such, or not getting over, making them navigate around...It is.... I am hyper-conscious to pull over too... And I get mad when people seem to do the minimum to get over in time. I would rather the emergency vehicles saw me stop a long ways out and knew they didn't have to worry about me.
Because this woman is already having a pretty bad day, I'll give ther the benefit that she just didn't see or hear him coming. He is harder to see... and his lights are harder to see, than a patrol car would be.
