The Hobbit Hole VIII - Still round the corner we may meet...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

*Sigh*

I don't wanna go to work today,
But the Lord of the Lash says "nay, nay, nay"

Need more coffee.

Now...I'm gonna do a Solomon here and say that rather than have him split, Ruthy can have him.

That means *I* actually get him, right?

I fly out to New Mexico tomorrow for a week's worth of field work.

Sigh...I love New Mexico. Spent a summer there and in Arizona just after college working with the American Indians. Was gonna go back as a full time missionary to the Shiprock area...but...life happened and I joined a cult instead...

It's a looooooooooooonnnnnnng story...

My "Go Hike the Canyon" shirt has now morphed into "Go Raft the Canyon"...afore long it'll be "Go rent Grand Canyon from Blockbuster"...

Have a good trip.

I have a feeling that saying Ruthy gets him means Ruthy gets him. :-)

Since you're in a giving mood, I can have Faramir, right?

Mornin', I gots another gardenin' question.

The Iris that I transplanted from my m-i-l's yard has come up. But I've noticed Iris blooming around town. Mine haven't yet. Should I assume that they may not bloom this year? I planted 'em just like she said and have fed them fairly well.

Am also hoping that the rain we just got didn't wash my sunflowers into the neighbor's yard (along with last year's wildflowers). Everything else should be okay.

Hang on and wait. That iris may still bloom. I had mine *start* blooming a month ago.... various ones have bloomed off and on since then. Today is the day with the most blooms so far - about 25 of 'em.... but I've still got more than half that haven't bloomed. Some of 'em will and some of 'em will grow the rhizome some more and bloom next year. I divided 'em all last fall too.

Hmm, well, I can give you a paper cut and pour lemon juice on it, if you'd like. Or - I know - I can give you the Flu of Doom. Which is almost gone! Just a slight congestion.

I'd just wait. My azaleas always bloomed later than everybody else's.

I think I HAVE the flu of doom. Or at least the creeping crud.

One guy gave it to pretty much all of us here at work, even those of us who just don't get sick very often.

I'm just starting to get it, so mostly I just feel blah.

Oh dear.

On the other hand, Flu of Doom will be a good excuse for a sick day when you get your cookies.

Sigh...I love New Mexico.

Me, too. My father's family is from there- sturdy folks w/ lots of grit. And I spent 5 summers working for the BSA at Philmont, a bit camp in the north of the state. I wax really serene out there. Especially up on the res. Most folks don't care for the four corners area because it's so barren, but I could live out my life there, happily.

Does the Hobbit Hole count as a cult? Cuz I've always wanted to say "I joined a cult" without actually having to deal with the brainwashing and deviant sexual practices.

Yep, me too. Still wish I'd done that, but life took a different turn.
