Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sound rather fishy to me And how many present at the Council of Elrond end up dead?

I think I'll have to see this movie, too, though it's likely to be a stinker.

Of course, they prolly won't let him use his real accent, which kinda defeats the purpose. Won't be near as nice that way. *snif*

No, it's loosely based on "Timeline", the book, by Michael Chrichton.

Hmmmm...."Elf" Earth Liberation Front. Coincidence?

Wow--didn't even notice that! Scary. But it would explain a lot: the fires the Wood Elves were lighting in Mirkwood; the tree-climbing in Lorien; the hippy folk songs the Rivendell Elves were singing in the Rankin-Bass Hobbit. . .

Nope. Based on Timeline, by Michael Crichton. Or however you spell it. The guy that wrote Sphere and Jurassic Park and all that.

Atilla...but as I'm looking closer, I think it was made for TV, and therefore probably not available on video. Darn!

Girl manga isn't like you!--you sure you're feeling okay? :)

Call It Courage really caught my imagination as a kid. I was always kind of interested in the Pacific Ocean and Pacific island culture and that just made me that much more interested. What's Johnny Tremaine about?

The book of Jurassic Park was way better than the movie. Have you ever read/seen Andromeda Strain?

Well, I am a mess till the end of the race. All this talk about malt Easter eggs made me want something sweet so instead of guac I got tortillas with honey and butter. Ended up with honey dripping all in my lap and running down my legs. UGH... need a shower. In 46 laps.

Nope. That was one about a super virus or bug of some sort, right?

Kinda like "The Satan Bug" by Alistair MacLean. That was SCARY. I couldn't put it down. But then, a lot of his books are like that. Very tense reading, but you have to know what happens next.

That's what I'm really starting to ask myself. "Mithrandir" takes the plunge at Khazad-dum because supposedly no one else can fight a Balrog--even though Legolas should have experience fighting Balrogs from the old Silmarillion-era wars--but instead he just takes his time showing off shooting double-arrow shots at Orcs while Gandalf falls to his death. And guess what?--with Gandalf's Ring of Power down at the bottom of Moria, who's got the two remaining Elf Rings of Power? Glorfindel and Galadriel. . .

You've never read Johnny Tremain? I thought that was required reading... it's about a silversmith's apprentice during the Revolutionary War who is injured so he can't do smithing any more. Very solid novel. I liked it a lot.

I wanted something I wouldn't have to think about. The girl-manga wasn't as cool as, say, Kenshin or Ranma, but it wasn't too stupid. I don't think I could take more than two or three volumes at a time, though.

I still can't read the story of how he gets injured without having to practically peek through my fingers, though. *shudder*

Not gonna spoil it, but...ouch! Ugh! Argh!

Yeah, even if he DOES seem to be thinking "Is this a really, really big dagger I see before me?" Doesn't seem to know what it is or how he got it!
